Description
This is a 45-hour course which provides participants with the knowledge and techniques to operate a boiler steam generating plant in a safe and efficient manner. Basics of boiler design and control are emphasized as well as the importance of feed water treatment. Topics include day-to-day operations, steam turbine control, power generation, and environmental control parameters to meet emission requirements. The safe handling and combustion of natural gas, fuel oil, coal, and wood fuel is covered. This course will also place emphasis on code requirements. The course offers a practical approach to power plant operation and is designed to prepare the student for the Maine licensing exam. This course will give the student 450 hours towards the 900 hours needed to sit for the Maine Licensing Exam. An additional 450 hours in the field is required in order to sit for this exam. This class will also be beneficial for individuals preparing for their 4th or 3rd class engineer's license.

Refund Policy
To receive a full refund, a student must cancel/drop their enrollment/registration more than 3 business days before the start of the course. Within 3 business days before the course starts, a partial refund of 50% of the course fee will be refunded. After the start of the course, no refund will be given. KVCC reserves the right to cancel a course for any reason and in the event that KVCC cancels the course a full refund will be made.
