Description
The Commercial Driving Licensure (CDL) truck driver training program offered through MSAD 54 Adult Education, qualifies students to be tested by the State of Maine, Department of Motor Vehicles for a class A Commercial Driver’s Permit (CLP) and a class A Commercial Driver’s License, IF the ELDT requirements of mandated hours and proficiency are met.
Instruction is based on state laws, industry regulations and equipment inspection as required for licensing and by industry. The program is designed to teach students the safe operation of trucks and a working knowledge of the trucking industry and its regulations.
Federal ELDT and State of Maine, Drivers Education standards for classroom and driving instruction are adhered to during the course. Students will spend part of their instructional time operating a tractor-trailer through a combination of on the range practice and road time practice. This real world CDL training consists of 78 hours of classroom instruction, 44 hours of behind-the-wheel practice in our training yard and road driving in both rural and urban environments and 26 lab hours.
Graduates of the commercial truck driver program will possess the knowledge and skills necessary to obtain their state CDL license (A) and gain employment as an entry-level truck driver. All persons that successfully complete the program will possess entry-level skills as required by the trucking industry and are able to utilize the school’s truck and trailer to test for licensing.
Candidates must hold a valid Maine Driver’s License, and must be compliant with Federal D.O.T. Regulations regarding drug testing for Commercial Drivers.
