- Employment Type: Full-time, year-round
- Pay: $70,000 - $90,000 annually, depending on experience and certification
About the Role
This is our mobile service position. You work out of a fully equipped company service vehicle, handling repairs and maintenance at customer boats in Rockland, Rockport, Camden, and surrounding harbors. You solve problems on your own, without a shop full of colleagues to lean on.
You are also the face of Johanson Boatworks in the field. The customer you help today may book a haul-out, restoration, or winter storage with us tomorrow. This role combines technical skill with a sales mindset, and we pay for that combination.
What You'll Do
Field Service
- Diagnose and repair marine diesel engines and systems dockside and on the hook - Perform scheduled maintenance, winterization, and commissioning in the field
- Troubleshoot fuel, cooling, exhaust, and electrical systems independently
- Manage your own route, parts, and job sequencing
- Maintain the service vehicle, its inventory, and its tooling
Customer Facing
- Represent JBW to owners, captains, and brokers
- Identify additional service needs and communicate them clearly and honestly
- Bring yard work back to Rockland: haul-outs, storage, restoration, and larger projects
- Support sales calls alongside service visits
- Keep accurate records of work performed and customer conversations
What You Bring
Required
- Strong hands-on marine diesel experience with proven independent diagnostic ability
- Genuine self-sufficiency. You will solve problems alone, on someone else's boat, without backup.
- A sales-oriented mindset and comfort in customer conversations
- Clean driving record and valid driver's license
- Own hand tools
- Ability to work in confined spaces and on the water
A Strong Plus
- ABYC certification
- Factory training on Yanmar, Volvo Penta, Westerbeke, Cummins, or Caterpillar marine engines
- Prior mobile or field service experience

- Local knowledge of midcoast Maine harbors
What We Offer
- $70,000 - $90,000 annually
- Fully equipped company service vehicle
- Autonomy over your route and your day
- A visible role. You represent the yard, and that is recognized in the pay.
- Paid time off and a tool allowance
