Northern Light A.R. Gould Department: Operating Room Position is located: Northern Light A.R. Gould Hospital Work Type: Full Time Hours Per Week: 40.00 Work Schedule: No Hours Assigned Salary Range : $ 43.46 – $67.15 Exempt: Yes Summary :The RN/OR Manager is a professional nurse registered in the State of Maine who is responsible for the management of the day to day operations (staffing, education, financial stability, PI, Policy and Procedures, etc.) of Surgical Services. This person plans, organizes, and directs the flow of the Operating Room Arena. This individual is also responsible for applying the RN process in providing care to all patients presenting to the unit. S/he must be adequately prepared by experience and training to educate the OR team including experienced and new staff. S/he must be adequately prepared by experience and training to care for cases ranging in acuity from non-urgent to life threatening. S/he must demonstrate an ability to cope with emergency situations while displaying calm, and demonstrate recognition of the value and dignity of the individual.
Responsibilities:+ Responsible for the development and implementation of the departmental capital and operating budgets.
+ Responsible for the formulation and implementation of OR nursing objectives relating to the goals of the hospital and high quality patient care.
+ Has responsibility for the hiring, discipline, discharge and scheduling of staff.
+ Is responsible for the development, implementation, revision, and reporting of Performance Improvement activities.
+ Responsible for the formulation of policies, procedures, and staffing patterns essential to the achievement of a high standard of patient care.
+ Responsible for the departmental compliance with Joint Commission and state licensure requirements.
+ Support Risk Management and Infection Control programs.
+ Demonstrate a commitment to the philosophy and objectives of the organization. Practice and encourage Service Excellence.
+ Responsible for coordinating the training and ongoing education of staff.
+ Demonstrates knowledge and skill in providing nursing care appropriate to the age of the patient.
+ Knowledge of the theory, application, and practice of aseptic/sterile technique is demonstrated.
+ Knowledge of correct preparation, handling, and dispensing of sterile supplies.
+ Knowledge of the surgical instruments, their proper use, handling and care, and their application to the surgical procedures.
+ Knowledge of specialized instruments, electrical equipment, machines, light sources, microscopes, laser, and other equipment, as needed, for special procedures.
+ Identifies handles and cares for the surgical specimen appropriate to the procedure being performed.
+ Has in depth knowledge of the surgeon’srequirements for the various procedures and provides for those requirements.
+ Maintain a safe environment for healthcare workers, patients, and/or visitors complying with Northern Light Health policies and procedures; review, document and address all incidents and safety violations within area of responsibility; report all lost time due to reported work injuries within 24 hours to local HR BP or Safety contact; support and facilitate open and non-punitive communication among Northern Light Health employees, non-employed healthcare workers, patients and visitors, reporting and addressing patient and environmental safety concerns.
