Registered Nurse

Reports To: Nurse Manager
Status: Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse (RN) will provide nursing care; assist clinical staff while interacting with patients
of all ages. The RN will work under the under the supervision of the provider and Nurse Manager and
will work as part of a Care Team to ensure effective and quality care is given to the KVHC patient, in
accordance with nursing professional standards and KVHC protocols and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Performs additional duties or projects as assigned by the Nurse Manager.
2. Under the direction of the Nurse Manager and or Provider the RN is responsible for providing
medical care to patients in the Health Center setting.
3. Prepares for the days schedule with a team huddle with provider.
4. Triages patient as needed and takes patient vital signs and document.
5. Take histories and perform screening procedures as indicated including the Social Determinants as
indicated for the Nurse.
6. Prepares exam room and treatment room with necessary instruments.
7. Assist Providers in preparing for minor surgeries and physicals.
8. Assists with tests such as EKG, as directed by the provider.
9. Administers parenteral medications including routine immunizations, therapeutic injections and
inhalation medications via nebulizer under the direction of a provider.
10. Performs lab tests, e.g. HCT, urinalysis, pregnancy tests, also draw blood and prepare it for
transport.
11. Provides Patient Education as needed.
12. Assists in maintaining compliance with quality assurance standards including CLIA and COLA.
13. Participate in the Care Team as outlined in Team Approach to Care Protocol.
14. Maintain the laboratory and laboratory equipment in good order; maintain proper temperature in
incubators, refrigerator and freezer, according to CLIA standards.
15. Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization.
16. Checks charts for lab and x-ray reports for review.
17. Work as part of the Clinical Care Team to insure effective and quality care is given to the KVHC
patient.
18. Work as part of the Clinical Care Team by assisting in training of new team members.
19. Other Duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager.
20. Conducts themselves as a good steward in the communities served by KVHC; represents the
organization at outreach activities as needed.

22. Conforms to acceptable attendance and punctuality standards as expressed in the employee
handbook.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1. High school diploma or equivalent, or a combination of education and experience.
2. Must be a graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing, and have a current license as a
Registered Nurse by the state of Maine.
3. Must possess the knowledge of Maine State Board of Nursing regulations as applicable to
licensure.
4. Valid State of Maine Driver’s license and ability to be insured by KVHC’s vehicle insurance
carrier.
5. Must have a current CPR certification.
6. Previous Experience with Electronic Health Records preferred.
7. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a health care setting.
8. Must possess excellent communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
9. Must possess the ability work in a high pressure health office setting.
10. Must possess excellent computer and keyboarding skills.
11. Must possess the ability to learn and adhere to the KVHC Safety and Compliance Policies and
Protocols.

FUNCTION, DEMANDS AND PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE
Requires full range of body motion with the ability to bend, kneel and stoop. Must possess: the ability
to sit and or stand for long periods of time, the ability to lift approximately 30 lbs., visual acuity with
color vision, the ability to communicate effectively and calmly in a professional manner, the ability to
follow all workplace policies including safety and confidentiality, the ability to perform repetitive
motion keyboarding functions, exposure to communicable disease, toxic substances, medicinal
preparations and other conditions common to clinic environment. Knowledge of organizational
policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care. Must possess the ability to work with
and around medical equipment and instruments safely and effectively as appropriate. Knowledge of
common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment including Safety Data
Sheets. Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence.
Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Skill in establishing and maintaining
effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. Ability to maintain quality
control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergencies. Ability to interpret, adapt and
apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly.
