Fort Fairfield, ME – Temp-to-Hire Opportunity
Schedule: Full-Time/Days; 40 hours/week - schedule may vary based on weather and seasonal needs
Pay Rate: $25.00 -$30.00/hr., based on experience.
Job Description:
Immediate opening for a Farm Equipment Technician to support a busy agricultural operation in Aroostook County. This is a great opportunity for a mechanically inclined individual who enjoys hands-on work and takes pride in keeping equipment and facilities running efficiently. This role offers long-term potential for a reliable candidate who can adapt to a variety of tasks throughout the year.
The Farm Equipment Technician will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of farm equipment, vehicles, and infrastructure. This position plays a key role in ensuring daily operations run smoothly by performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and supporting general facility upkeep. Ideal candidate will be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, outdoor environment.
Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on farm equipment, including tractors, loaders, skid steers, trailers, and feed systems.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues.
- Complete welding and fabrication tasks for equipment and facility repairs (fencing, gates, feed bunks, etc.).
- Maintain water systems, wells, and general infrastructure across the property.
- Track equipment usage and schedule preventative maintenance based on hours and mileage.
- Maintain detailed service logs and complete work orders for repairs and maintenance.
- Manage inventory of parts, tools, and supplies to ensure readiness for repairs.
- Conduct inspections of equipment and vehicles to ensure safe operation and regulatory compliance.
- Assist with general property upkeep, including seasonal tasks such as snow removal or minor construction projects.
- Respond to urgent repair needs and perform field fixes when necessary.
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
- Perform additional duties as requested by management.
Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with agricultural or heavy equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Welding and fabrication experience strongly preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Ability to lift/move 50–70 lbs. regularly and up to 100 lbs. occasionally.
- Comfortable working around livestock and in outdoor environments year-round.
