Fort Fairfield & Washburn, ME – Temp-to-Hire Opportunity
Schedule: Full-Time/Days; 40 hours/week - schedule may vary based on weather and seasonal needs
Pay Rate: $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
Job Description:
We are seeking a reliable Farm Hand to support daily operations at a small feedlot facility. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work and is comfortable working outdoors in a fast-paced agricultural environment.
This position requires a versatile individual who can safely operate heavy equipment while also providing attentive care to livestock. Daily responsibilities will include feeding operations, equipment maintenance, pen upkeep, and monitoring the health and well-being of cattle. Ideal candidate will be self-motivated, mechanically inclined, and committed to maintaining a safe and productive work environment.
Responsibilities:
- Operate feed trucks, tractors, and mixers to distribute feed according to established schedules.
- Use loaders, skid steers, and other equipment to clean pens, remove manure, and maintain proper bedding.
- Perform routine equipment maintenance, including fueling, greasing, and checking fluid levels.
- Assist with general grounds work, including snow removal, mowing, and minor construction or repair projects.
- Monitor livestock daily for signs of illness, injury, or distress; report concerns to management.
- Assist with vaccinations, treatments, and general animal care as directed.
- Move, sort, and load cattle using low-stress handling techniques.
- Maintain and repair fences, gates, and watering systems.
- Keep accurate records of feed distribution and animal health observations.
- Perform general labor and additional duties as assigned by management.
Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 1-3 years of experience in agriculture, ranching, or heavy equipment operation preferred.
- Experience operating tractors, skid steers, and large equipment required.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required; CDL (Class A) preferred.
- Ability to lift/move 50 -70 lbs. regularly and up to 100 lbs. occasionally.
- Basic mechanical and/or welding skills a plus.
- Willingness to work outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions.
- Availability for early mornings, weekends, holidays, and on-call situations as needed.
