Job Description
Join our municipal team as a Clerk II and play an essential role in supporting the Tax Collector/City Clerk’s office within the Finance & Administration Department. This position combines advanced administrative, financial, and customer service responsibilities, including maintaining vital records, assisting with elections and voter registration, processing taxes and licenses, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and procedures. You’ll serve as a key resource in daily operations while delivering professional, responsive service to the public.

Strong communication, computer, and financial handling skills are essential, along with the ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality. Requirements: High school diploma and a minimum of three (3) years of responsible clerical or office support experience, including customer service and cash handling. Ability to obtain State of Maine Notary Public certification and perform notarization acts within one (1) year of hire. Prior related municipal experience is preferred. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Compensation & Benefits: This full-time (40 hours), non-exempt position offers a comprehensive benefits package. The FY26 pay range for Teamsters General Government Range 14 is $23.49-$33.70 per hour, with annual COLA increases and potential merit-based step adjustments; starting pay depends on experience, qualifications, and budget availability.
The City covers 80-84.5% of health, dental, and vision premiums. The Pemaquid Health Plan includes an HRA for deductible support and a 2.75% wage increase. Additional benefits include participation in the MainePERS Plan AC defined benefit retirement plan (no Social Security participation), paid time off (vacation, sick leave, and 13 holidays), life insurance, and access to optional benefits such as Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs), short-term disability, a 457(b) plan, and tuition reimbursement. A medical buyout option ($2,400–$3,600 annually) is available for those with alternate coverage.
