The Electrical Engineer develops and implements electrical and electronic systems on new and existing products, including modifications, revisions, and enhancements in accordance with applicable codes and standards.  The position provides, in conjunction with other electrical engineers and technicians, electrical and electronic support for all Research and Development, Manufacturing, Customer and Technical Support personnel.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research, design and implement projects based on:
    • Reliability
    • Manufacturability
    • Cost effectiveness
    • Applicable codes and regulatory standards
  • Prepare product documentation, to include:
    • Electrical/electronic schematics
    • Creating specifications for outsourcing all related parts and components
    • Creating and reviewing drawings and diagrams for manufacturing/assembly
    • Preparing cost evaluations for management
    • For obtaining required Standard Agency (NRTL) approvals
  • Provide electrical/electronic support:
    • Analyze electrical problems
    • Answer electrical questions for other departments and customers
    • Provide expertise in electrical testing procedures
    • Prepare and issue ECR/ECN for product improvement
    • Research, qualify and implement replacements for obsolete or unobtainable production released components
  • Make every effort to focus on doing-it-right to make sure the customer is happy or satisfied with our units.
  • Provide value to our customers by using Lean tools and concepts to identify and eliminate waste in all forms (scrap/rework, transportation, motion, waiting, inventory, over production, over processing, and under-utilization of people). Uses systemic thinking by seeing processes from end to end and works to challenge the status quo to eliminate the root cause of problems. Is involved in individual and/or team activities that involve using Lean tools and concepts to improve the flow of information and material.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to work for extended periods of time on a computer (up to 100% of the time on any given day)
  • Must be able to lift materials and parts weighing between 30-40 lbs. occasionally (10%-20% of the time)
  • Must be able to work on elevated stands, climb stepladders, work overhead and work in a standing position occasionally (25% - 35% of the time)

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • BSEE degree
  • Able to work on projects without supervision
  • Team player
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good computer skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Competent with basic test and measurement equipment

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE SKILLS

  • Hands-on wiring and assembly skills
  • Background in working with third party testing organizations
  • Higher level programming experience
  • Board level and equipment design experience
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Sheet metal experience
