Presque Isle, ME – Temp-to-Hire Opportunity

Schedule: Full-Time/Days; 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday–Friday
Pay: $20.00 – $25.00/hr.

Job Description:

Immediate opening for a Legal Assistant with a local law office in Presque Isle. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly organized individual with strong communication skills and prior administrative experience. Benefits - including health insurance, paid vacation and holidays, and a retirement plan - are available after the introductory period. 

The Legal Assistant will support the office’s attorneys and administrative staff by performing a variety of clerical and organizational duties. Responsibilities include greeting visitors, answering incoming calls, managing correspondence, preparing and proofreading documents, maintaining organized files, and coordinating schedules and deadlines. Ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, dependable, and capable of managing multiple tasks in a professional office environment. Prior experience supporting litigation matters in Maine District Court, Probate Court, or Superior Court strongly preferred.

Responsibilities:
 
  • Greet visitors and assist with screening potential clients.
  • Answer phones, take messages, coordinate appointments, and direct calls to appropriate staff members.
  • Maintain accurate contact records and client information.
  • Coordinate multiple calendars and provide timely reminders to ensure projects and deadlines are met.
  • Prepare, organize, and file legal documents related to active cases and court proceedings.
  • Enter information into the firm’s practice management software.
  • Proofread and edit documents for grammatical, typographical, and spelling errors before finalizing and distributing them.
  • Correspond with clients, financial institutions, and attorneys from other firms in a professional and timely manner.
  • Perform additional administrative and clerical tasks as needed.

Job Requirements:
 
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two or more years of professional administrative experience.
  • Certified paralegal training or related post-secondary education strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience managing real estate documentation highly valued.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and common office equipment, with the ability to learn new technology quickly.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
