Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
Next Class Begins: February 25, 2025
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program is a 130 -hour program, consisting of a minimum
of 70 hours of classroom instruction, 20 hours of lab time, and 40 hours of clinical
work. Students who complete the course will be eligible to sit for the Maine CNA
competency test. Training includes CPR certification.
Course requirements include but are not limited to the following:
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Must be able to provide proof of completion of 9th grade of school if you do not have your High School credential or higher
- Must be able to satisfactorily pass a background check prior to program acceptance decision
- Ability to read and write in English with a 9th grade English reading & writing competency level on the CASAS (Competency Adult Student Assessment System)
- Must complete a follow-up CASAS assessment before sitting for the final exam
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Absence of drug and alcohol abuse
- Immunization records and any necessary medical testing must be complete, up-to-date, and in compliance with clinical facility requirements in place with Region 9 Adult Education
- Complete interview with instructor
- Must be able to furnish supplies required for the course not covered by tuition (if not covered by funding)
- Attendance is expected and required at all classes, laboratory practices, and clinical days. A student cannot have more than 2 absences for the entire course.
- In the event you must miss a class, arrangement for make-up work is the responsibility of the student. A student would defer to the instructor regarding the make-up policy
- Must pass course with at least an 80% GPA
Supplies covered in Adult Education tuition:
- 2 sets of scrubs
- Textbooks/Workbooks
- Name badge
Course supplies not covered in Adult Education tuition:
- Slip resistant, closed toe shoes (sneakers recommended) - please see the instructor for specific footwear requirements - required for the clinical portion of class
- Wrist watch with a second hand
- Classroom supplies - black or blue pens, #2 pencils, notebook for note taking, highlighters, binder for paperwork
- Blood pressure cuff
- Stethoscope
- Gait belt
