Description
The certified residential medication aide program teaches basic fundamental skills required by the prescribed curriculum approved by the Department of Human Services-Division of Licensing and Certification. These include:
a)general medication information, b)medication categories, effects and interactions, c)discussion of actual administration of medications including safe procedures and documentation, d)body systems and how medications might affect them, e) administering external medications, f)abbreviations and measurements, g)how to take body temperature, pulse, and blood pressure, h)infection control and the use of universal precautions, i)medication resources and how to use them (i.e. source books for medication such as The Pill Book or the PDR), j)emergency systems such as 911 and poisonous substances.
A clinical experience will be provided under the supervision of a Registered Nurse at an area health care facility.
