Description
This program was approved on June 2, 2006 by the Maine Board of Alcohol and Drug Counselors as an approved educational program for the preparation of Alcohol & Drug Counselors. Board approval allows a graduate of this program to apply to the State of Maine to take the national ICRC exam and for the State to approve the successful candidate as an entry level Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor.
This is an instructional program that prepares individuals to counsel drug users, addicts, family members, and associates in a wide variety of facility settings, using various preventive strategies and treatment regimes. Includes instruction in outreach; patient education; therapeutic intervention methods; diagnostic procedures; addiction symptomology; record-keeping; acting as a referral liaison with community health, social services, law enforcement, and legal services; and provides instruction in applicable regulations.
