Job Description:
Now hiring a Behavioral Health Professional to work for a local non-profit organization serving Presque Isle, Caribou, and surrounding areas. Excellent opportunity for individuals interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, social work, or counseling to gain valuable on-the-job experience, training, and certifications. Part-Time/Days and Evenings; semi-flexible schedule with hours available from 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM, Monday - Friday. Some Saturday availability required. $18.81/hr.
The Behavioral Health Professional provides direct support services to individuals from infancy through young adulthood (up to age 20), with a focus on promoting emotional, behavioral, and social well-being at home and in community settings. This role involves supporting individuals with disabilities and their families by teaching positive coping and communication skills and helping households safely manage challenging behaviors. The Behavioral Health Professional will work closely with educators, families, and clinical teams to foster supportive environments and develop routines and strategies that promote long-term wellness, safety, and independence for both the individual and their household.
Responsibilities:
- Follow established Individual Treatment Plans to assist children in meeting long-term social, domestic, behavioral, and safety goals.
- Develop creative and adaptive strategies to accommodate clients' challenges while working toward identified objectives.
- Work with caregivers to set up and supervise a variety of client activities, both at home and in community settings.
- Protect the health, safety, and well-being of both the employee and served individuals by using appropriate de-escalation and physical intervention techniques as directed by program training.
- Utilize wheelchairs, lifts, and other assistive devices to safely transfer clients to and from vehicles, following prescribed protocols.
- Assist with clients' personal care as needed.
- Provide safe and reliable transportation for clients using a personal vehicle with appropriate insurance, registration, and inspection.
- Support individuals with challenging behaviors while promoting the development of positive coping skills.
- Collaborate with parents and guardians to support continuity of care and progress toward goals in the home environment.
- Notify supervisors of concerns or issues not addressed in the client's treatment plan.
- Complete accurate, objective, and timely progress notes related to client goals and behaviors.
- Report incidents promptly and in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Review and approve time records to ensure accuracy.
Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent education required.
- At least one year of experience working with children with developmental disabilities or varying abilities and behaviors strongly preferred.
- Valid State of Maine driver's license and good driving record required.
- Regular access to a reliable vehicle with valid insurance, registration, and inspection.
- Working knowledge of personal computers and experience with Microsoft Windows and/or Microsoft Office, or similar software.
- Excellent listening and comprehension skills, with the ability to identify client needs and unrecognized challenges.
- Ability to maintain professional conduct and demonstrate strong ethical and moral standards.
- Ability to successfully complete all required trainings within allotted time, including CPR/First Aid (3 months), Safety Care (3 months), and Behavioral Health Professional (BHP) certification (1 year).
- Ability to move/lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
- Background check required.
The Behavioral Health Professional will work in a variety of home, community, and program-based settings, which may include occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions. This position includes working with individuals who may at times exhibit verbal or physical behaviors. Noise levels in some environments may be elevated. Employees may be required to transport individuals using their personal vehicle in accordance with program guidelines. Compensation for mileage will be provided.
