Front of House Staff. 8 temporary, full-time positions. 04/01/2026 to 01/01 2027. The Slaked Whale, LLC DBA Thirsty Whale Tavern located at 40 Cottage Street, Bar Harbor, Maine 04609. Hosting duties such as: greeting guests; managing waitlists and reservations; escorting guests to their tables and provide menus; answer guest questions about the restaurant, menu and policies; and relay guest concerns or special requests to appropriate staff. Front of house side work involves opening duties such as: turning on lights, music, and TVs; set up host stand (menus, pens, waitlist system, reservation book); wipe down tables, chairs, and high-touch surfaces; stock server stations with napkins, silverware, straws, condiments, and ramekins; set up beverage station including brewing initial coffee; fill ice bins and prepare water pitchers and refills stations; check restrooms for cleanliness and supplies; ensure menus and special boards are clean and updated. Throughout the shift,  front of house staff will: reset tables quickly and correctly after each guest; refill waters, coffee, and non-alcoholic beverages as needed; restock server stations; run food when needed; assist with clearing and pre-bussing tables; monitoring restrooms and restock supplies; keep host stand organized and tidy; support takeout order packaging and handoff; and communicate table status to servers and managers. Closing duties involves the following: wipe down and sanitize all tables, chairs, and surfaces; restock silverware, napkins, condiments, and to-go supplies; roll silverware (or confirm rolled count); clean and restock beverage station; empty and clin ice bins; sweep and mop front of house floors; clean menus and store them properly; take out trash and recycling; check restrooms one final time; turn off lights; music, and TVs; and secure front of house areas. Will manage and work with restaurant merchandise: apparel, drinkware, accessories, etc. which involves the following duties: track stock levels and report low inventory to management; receive, unpack, and organize new merchandise shipments by displaying them on shelves and ensuring pricing is visible, accurate and consistent; maintain accurate counts for all items; restock shelves and racks throughout the shift and keep display areas dust-free and tidy; keep back-stock organized, labeled, and easy to access; update seasonal or promotional displays as directed; assist guests with sizing, product recommendations, and gift ideas; process merchandise sales through POS; and offer gift receipts, bags and packaging when appropriate; promote new items, limited editions, or bundles. Original Duties: Hosting, food running, front of house side work involving setting up restaurant, rolling silverware, opening and closing restaurant duties, taking out trash, assisting servers and bartenders, getting ice, stocking product, working with merchandise, assisting guests 35Hrs/week. Varying number of hours per workday depending on shift. Mon-Sun 4pm-11 or 11:30pm. Days off vary. 10 hours of OT possible. No minimum education required. No experience required. Travel will not be required. Wage: $19.97/Hr (including tips, with the possibility of earning more based on tips); OT Wage: $29.96/Hr. Workers paid weekly. Housing Assistance: Optional board/lodging available at a cost to be deducted from pay if elected. Cost of housing: $100-$150/week (depending on the room). Price includes WiFi; utilities; and free washers and dryer. $100 Security Deposit to be returned upon leaving as long as there is no damage and keys are returned. On the job training provided. Raises and/or bonuses may be offered to any worker in the specified occupation, at the company’s sole discretion, based on individual factors including work performance, skill and tenure. Single workweek will be used to compute wages due. All deductions from the worker’s paycheck required by law will be made. If the worker completes 50% of the work contract period, the employer will reimburse the worker for transportation and subsistence from the place of recruitment to the place of work. Upon completion of the work contract or where the worker is dismissed earlier, the employer will provide or pay for workers’ reasonable costs of return transportation and subsistence back home or to the place the worker originally departed to work, except where the worker will not return due to subsequent employment with another employer or where the employer has appropriately reported a worker’s voluntary abandonment of employment. The amount of transportation payment or reimbursement will be equal to the most economical and reasonable common carrier for the distances involved. Daily subsistence provided at a rate of at least $16.28/day during travel to a maximum of $68/day with receipts/documentation of actual expenses. H2B Workers will be reimbursed in the first workweek for all visa, visa processing, border crossing and other related fees, including those mandated by the government (except passport fees). Employer will provide workers at no charge all tools, supplies, and equipment required to perform the job, and guarantees to offer work for hours equal to at least three-fourths of the workdays in each 12 week period of total employment period.
