Job Description
Construction Laborer: 10 openings at Gordon Contracting, Inc., 627 North Dexter Road, Sangerville, Maine 04479, phone number: (207) 876-6302, to work in various locations throughout Maine (including the Maine counties of Piscataquis, Androscoggin, Aroostook, Cumberland, Franklin, Hancock, Kennebec, Knox, Oxford, Penobscot, Sagadahoc, Somerset, Waldo, Washington, York, and Lincoln). Construction Laborers meet each morning at the employer’s place of business at 627 N Dexter Rd, Sangerville, ME 04479 to gather and prepare equipment, and then travel to various cities/towns as needed for job sites to provide construction services. Transportation to and from the employer’s place of business in Sangerville to the job site is provided by the employer, but transportation to and from the employee’s residence to the employer’s place of business is not provided. If a job site is close enough to the employer's place of business or the employee's residence, employees are allowed to meet on the job site. Job sites are unanticipated, but limited to the combination of geographic locations of the BLS Areas listed in Appendix A as well as the employer place of business in Sangerville; and all job sites comprise a singular area of intended employment. Duties include performing tasks involving physical labor at constructions sites such as: loading and unloading tools, preparing building site materials, stacking building materials, and setting up equipment; ensuring construction equipment and tools are cleaned and stored properly; following project instructions from construction manager or supervisor; consulting construction plans; operating hand and power tools including, but not limited to, air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, saws, drills, surveying and measuring equipment, pressure washers, jackhammers, grinders, and blowtorches; ensuring proper headgear, earplugs, gloves, safety glasses, and clothing are worn during work; assist in building scaffolding and temporary structures; measuring, marking, and recording distances to lay out areas where construction work will be performed; preparing new construction sites by digging, moving dirt, or compacting areas of the ground; clean and clear debris and hazardous materials; controlling traffic near, in, or around work zones by setting up traffic control devices such as cones, drums, and signs; assisting other craft workers as needed; following all worksite health and safety regulations. 40+ hours per week, Monday to Sunday (1-2 days off, varies), multiple shifts available as early as 6:00 a.m. to as late as 8:00 p.m., $23.34-$27.00 per hour, overtime possible at $35.01-$40.50 per hour; temporary full-time position (April 1, 2026, to December 1, 2026). No minimum education or experience required; must be able to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 75 pounds; must be comfortable climbing up tall ladders and working at elevated levels; must be able to work independently and as an active member of a team; on-the-job training provided. Performance-based bonus and/or raise possible. Optional employer-provided housing available at $125-$200 per week depending on amenities provided deducted from weekly pay, if elected. Paid weekly using a single workweek as the standard for computing wages due. Standard payroll deductions as required by law.
Transportation (including meals and, to the extent necessary, lodging) to the place of employment will be provided, or its cost to workers reimbursed, if worker completes half the employment period; the amount for daily subsistence will be at least $16.28 per day during travel to a maximum of $68.00 per day with receipts; return transportation will be provided if the worker completes the employment period or is dismissed early by the employer. Reimbursement within one week after the start of work of visa, visa processing, border crossing, and other related fees, including those mandated by the government, incurred by the H-2B worker. The employer guarantees to offer work for hours equal to at least three-fourths of the workdays in each 12-week period of the total employment period. The employer will provide workers, at no charge, with all tools, supplies, and equipment required to perform the job.
