Temporary Field Observer – Seatbelt Compliance StudyLocation: Travel within Maine (Oxford and Hancock Counties)
Pay: $18.00/hr + $0.50/mile reimbursement
Duration: Approx. 2 weeks (about 9 working days)

Training: 2-hour in-person session in Lewiston, Portland, or Augusta Join a Statewide Safety Study – Make a Difference! We’re hiring a Field Observer for a short-term, high-impact study on seatbelt compliance across Maine. If you’re detail-oriented, self-motivated, and enjoy working independently in the field, we want to hear from you! What You’ll Do:
- Travel to Oxford and Hancock counties to observe and record seatbelt usage at 5 pre-assigned roadside sites per day
- Spend 45 minutes per site collecting real-time data on traffic
- Complete a brief, in-person training in Lewiston, Portland, or Augusta
- Maintain accurate and organized data and paperwork
- Manage your own schedule and work independently
- Safely operate in both rural and high-traffic areas
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle
- Ability to pass a motor vehicle background check
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Comfortable driving long distances and working outdoors in varied weather
- Willingness to stay overnight in certain locations (hotel & meal stipend provided)
- Standing for extended periods (up to 1 hour at a time)
- Frequent vehicle entry/exit, long drives between sites
- Outdoor work in heat, light rain, or changing weather
- Good eyesight (glasses/contacts acceptable)
- Able to carry light supplies (clipboards, forms)
- $18/hour (includes travel and working time)
- $0.50/mile mileage reimbursement
- Hotel accommodations and daily food stipend provided for required overnights
- All supplies and training provided
