at MERT Enterprises, Inc. in Bangor, Maine, United States
Job Description
MERT’s success for 32 years is because we remained a small agency putting our consumers and employee's first and keeping the work environment family friendly. We want our employees to enjoy their MERT experience while feeling appreciated and doing a job that is personally rewarding. We pride ourselves on hiring pleasant, knowledgeable people who want to make a difference while having a reliable and steady work schedule every week. Instead of just having a 'job', why not start a 'career' that is in high demand, provides you with ongoing training and provides you with a regular, part-time schedule so you have time for your classes? MERT Enterprises, Inc. has openings for Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) in Greater Bangor, for part-time Community-Based positions providing you with a fixed-shift each week. Hours are primarily from 2:00pm-10:00pm on weekdays and the weekend and there are no overnights. The shifts range from 4 to 12 hours so you can customize an alternate work schedule to fit your needs. You work with one adult consumer who has a variety of Intellectual, Physical and Mental Health disabilities and Autism. Our DSPs provide a supportive environment to our consumers to live as independently as possible in their own homes and communities by teaching and role modeling in a casual work environment. Typical DSP duties could include toileting, bathing, dressing, assisting with preparing and serving meals, administering medications, household cleaning, money use, grocery shopping and driving the consumer to and from their job or day program, taking them to doctor appointments, attending recreational and social activities in the Bangor area and supporting them with their participation in Special Olympics practices and events locally and statewide. Experience working with people with Intellectual, Physical, Mental Health disabilities and Autism is preferred but not required. Basic computer skills needed to use web-based Therap consumer-tracking software to provide secure online daily documentation and medication information. Employment at MERT Enterprises, Inc. is contingent upon having a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Applicants must be able to furnish proof of the highest level of education completed. Applicants will also need to pass a pre-employment criminal background check, driving record (DMV) check, APS (Adult Protective Services), CPS (Child Protective Services) check and professional reference check. Personal vehicle use is required as-needed to transport our consumers – your vehicle must seat four people comfortably and vehicle should be available 24/7. Verbal communication skills are essential to provide information to others. Our Entry Level Pay Rate with no prior experience is $17.00/hr. MERT provides a “Weekend Shift Differential” of $1.00/hr. Mileage is reimbursed for personal vehicle use, tolls, etc. Earned Paid Leave begins accruing on your first day of employment. CRMA and DSP certification is required in the first year of employment and is fully paid by MERT. Applicants already having prior DSP work experience and CRMA, DSP, First Aid/CPR or Safety-Care certifications may have their starting pay rate adjusted upward based on related work experience and current certifications.
