The opportunity: The State Filing Senior Analyst is part of the State Filing team within the Sun Life Financial Compliance Division. The analyst works with internal & external clients to develop insurance contract language related to product development initiatives and is then responsible for filing the required product forms with the state insurance departments. The analyst may also performs compliance and regulatory activities related to the Sun Life's group insurance products.
How you will contribute:
Represent State Filing on divisional product development initiatives.
Compose legally defensible and administratively correct contract language for new products and product enhancements which accurately reflects marketing intent and conforms to statutory and regulatory requirements for each state.
Manage nationwide submission of rates and policy forms.
Develop state filing strategies to ensure timely submission of new products or product enhancements.
Negotiate timely approval with state regulatory agencies while maintaining product .competitiveness, preserving language uniformity, and limiting exposure to unintended risks.
Respond to state objections in accordance with established time frames.
Maintain approval records and reference libraries.
Respond to inquiries from business partners regarding product-related issues and submission strategies.
Communicate state variations of standard product to the impacted business and systems areas.
Provide management reports regarding the status of filing projects.
Participate in compliance implementation activity when changes in statutes or regulations impact contractual provisions.
Analyze legislation to determine impact to products; maintain documentation of changes made in response to newly enacted laws.
Research and respond to customer inquiries on compliance issues; communicate changes as needed to customers. Perform managed care network oversight and make state filings as required.
Coordinate and prepare statutory surveys and reports based on annual calendar.
Participate in state insurance department market conduct examinations as they pertain to contract filings and product approvals.
Assist Compliance and Law with litigation or acquisition exhibits.
What you will bring with you:
Ability to work with a diverse range of people
3-5+ years of State Filing experience, preferably within insurance industry with voluntary and group STD, LTD, Life, Stop Loss, Dental, Vision and Supplemental Health (i.e., Critical Illness, Accident, Cancer, Hospital Indemnity coverages) products/policies
Knowledge of insurance compliance and company products including voluntary and group STD, LTD, life stop loss, dental, vision and supplemental health (i.e., critical illness, accident, cancer, hospital indemnity coverages) products
ABA approved paralegal program and/or insurance designation/license a plus but not required
J.D. or College degree preferred
Experience with SERFF and Microsoft Office applications such as Word & Excel.
