Spectrum provides services at many of Maine’s hospitals throughout the state and in eastern New Hampshire. Job Summary The Southern Radiology APP provides high-level patient care and clinical support to the Radiologists by performing select radiology procedures including CT guided, fluoroscopic and Ultrasound modality procedures, Mediport, TDC and other CVA line placements, drain replacements such as biliary and nephrostomy tubes, thoracentesis, and paracentesis. This position provides support for other radiology procedures in areas such as fluoroscopy (barium swallows, Esophagrams, etc.), neuroradiology (LP and myelograms), and musculoskeletal radiology (joint aspirations/injections, etc.). This position assists radiologists by gathering and interpreting comprehensive medical information, performing medical histories and physical examinations on patients scheduled to receive diagnostic procedures. Responsible to assist with education of technologists, nurses, radiology residents, and office staff, with a focus on the optimal delivery of quality care to patients. Works with the PA Lead, Lead Vascular and Interventional physician, as well as the Southern Radiology Division’s managing director, in conjunction with the Practice Director of Radiology to develop, implement, and facilitate practice policies and procedures relating to patient care provided by the advanced practice provider team. HOURS: Per Diem (M-F). ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS+ Obtains complete medical histories and performs pertinent physical exams with assessment of normal and abnormal findings on new and return patients.
+ Perform CT guided, fluoroscopic and Ultrasound modality procedures, Mediport, TDC and other CVA line placements, drain replacements such as biliary and nephrostomy tubes, and thoracentesis and paracentesis.
+ Assist in direct patient care services, including inpatient and outpatient consults and follow up.
+ Provides detailed procedure education including procedure risks, benefits, alternatives and expected outcomes.
+ Participates in the informed consent process per institutional policy.
+ Manage post-procedure care for both outpatients and inpatients to identify any medical management issues, assess for immediate complications and/or identify sedation related events.
+ Assesses outpatient candidates for discharge, and evaluates extended recovery patients as required.
+ Maintains and reviews patient’s records, charts and other pertinent information.
+ Perform daily rounds and document progress notes on patients.
+ Prescribes medication, determines pre, intra, and post procedure medical management and writes orders within licensed scope of practice.
+ Orders and interprets pertinent laboratory and diagnostic studies/imaging.
+ Legibly, timely and accurately documents/enters medication orders including routine pre-procedure and post-procedure medications.
+ Maintains appropriate level of Company & facility HIPAA-related confidentiality.
+ Uses Universal Precautions including personal protective equipment for anticipated contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials
+ Promotes a team care environment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES+ Maintains competency by reading professional literature, participating in continuing education, and maintaining professional affiliations.
+ Attends 50% of available Interventional Radiology Morbidity & Mortality Conferences.
+ Attends required meetings and participates in various committees as required.
+ Works with the appropriate department administration to support changes in office or medical protocols, including the development of new service processes and procedures.
+ Maintains compliance with regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies both regionally and nationally.
+ Maintains communication with physicians and staff regarding patient care.
+ Demonstrates professionalism at all times.
+ Performs other duties necessary to maintain the overall efficiency and continuity of the division.
+ Displays cooperative behavior and interacts positively and effectively with others to promote a team environment.
+ Is proactive in identifying, reporting and participating in the resolution of any potential or actual patient safety issues.
+ Remains flexible in support of the operational and administrative functions required to care for the VIR patient population.
QUALIFICATIONS+ Graduate of an accredited school with a degree as a Physician Assistant
+ Current, unrestricted PA license issued by State of Maine or eligible for licensure
+ Experience and knowledge in interventional radiology procedures
+ CITI (IRB) Training certificate
+ Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification
+ Current DEA certification
+ Skilled in taking medical history, assessing medical condition and interpreting findings
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skill with the ability to develop and maintain a productive working relationship with all hospital staff and Radiology physicians and executives in the division
+ Knowledge of the professional medical practice deliver and evaluate patient care
+ Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to appropriate patient/physician correspondence
+ Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance
+ Proficient computer skills
+ Ability to maintain confidentiality
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT+ Operation of various office equipment: fax machine, telephone and voice mail system, personal computer, e-mail system, cell phone, pager, and photocopier
+ Exposure to blood borne pathogens, medications, communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, may occur. Use of appropriate measures is required for safety controls and techniques
+ Operation of therapeutic and diagnostic medical equipment, administering therapeutic modalities
+ May be required to sit or stand for long periods of time
