Job Description
The Process Improvement Program Manager works cross-functionally in a leadership role to drive process improvements and a quality culture in JAX Services in the interest of creating a world class customer experience, long-term business sustainability and growth. The incumbent will work closely with Business Unit Managers, Directors and Managers of JAX Services Operations, Research Services Managers, systems managers, quality control and quality assurance managers, area supervisors and staff, and internal and external customers. The incumbent works independently to devise a process improvement program for the JAX Services department as a primary focus, with projects that will be cross-functional. The incumbent identifies champions, develops and implements process improvement programs utilizing proven quality management practices such as Lean manufacturing and/or Six Sigma. The Process Improvement Program Manager is responsible for the leadership of all projects, developing reports to update all stakeholders and driving prioritization of projects through cross functional BU teams.
*This is a hybrid position based in either Sacramento, CA or Bar Harbor, ME. Candidates hired into this role will need to work onsite for a few days per week.*
The salary range is $65,432 - $112,472. Salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities
Process Improvement Management:
Develop a portfolio of prioritized process improvement projects, training projects, quality assurance and systems development projects.
Leading teams in defined projects with written goals, timelines and project milestones that will reduce waste, simplify processes, eliminating non-value added steps, problem solve and reduce defects.
Utilizing Lean and Six Sigma tools such as process control mapping, root cause analysis, flow charting, data analysis and financial analysis.
A key activity is defining metrics to monitor pre- and post-implementation states.
Work with other process development managers to develop quality standards across JAX Services.
Ensuring corrective and preventative measures are implemented with proper follow through and post-implementation review.
Performing project and procedure documentation and writing training manuals. Regularly presenting oral and written reports to senior management.
Develops a Lean training program. Drives continuous process improvement mentality with front line staff, supervisors and managers. Performs training in Lean methodology, tools and problem solving techniques via formal presentations and workshops; through staff participation in projects; one-on-one coaching; and through external coursework or seminars.
Systems Key Contributor:
The Process Improvement Program Manager serves a leadership role in new systems implementation, such as systems for laboratory data management or for document management.
Works to define requirements and specifications, capture current state process maps, design future state process maps, and deliver requirements to software teams, while bringing a broad understanding of the customer, business and interdepartmental impacts of those decisions.
Oversees or performs staff training of new systems.
Documents workflows, process maps, and training manuals.
Quality Assurance:
Manages SOP writing, training and review for Project Management, Study Directors and Animal Care supervisors and managers.
Performs audits and data analysis to identify and rectify process defects.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Statistics, or related business analytics field and 5 yrs relevant experience, or a master's degree with 3yrs relevant process experience is preferred. The use of Power BI is an advantage
Must have at least 4 - 5 years successful operational management or process improvement experience and at least 3 - 4 years experience in developing, implementing and managing quality control systems. Demonstrated success in project management and leadership is required.
Experience with Lean tools and methodology required. Lean Six Sigma training to Black Belt level preferred but not required.
Must work well independently with little direction or supervision. Must be a self-starter, action-oriented and results-oriented with solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
