Job Description

Research Scientist Vishnu Hosur is seeking a motivated, detail oriented full time Research Assistant to join his team at the Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine. The successful candidate will be working with a dynamic team to develop new mouse models of cancer and gene editing strategies. This position is a great opportunity for both experienced associates to expand their skills in molecular biology, mouse model development, and phenotyping capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Mouse husbandry, breeding, genotyping, overseeing cryopreservation and shipping, and experimental manipulations such as drug treatments and subsequent data collection.
Manage a colony of experimental mice.
Cell culture, PCR, ELISA, Flow cytometry experience is preferred.
Conducts tests, experiments, and/or procedures following standard or detailed protocols.
Project planning, experimental design, developing methodology, conducting procedures, data collection and analysis, assisting in the preparation of publications, and assisting with daily laboratory functions and compliance.
Documentation and communication of experimental data through oral presentations and written reports.
Ability to work flexible shifts (evening/weekend as needed)

Qualifications

Research Assistant II:
Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or related discipline OR 3 - 6 years of directly related experience in a Laboratory setting.

Research Assistant III:
Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or related discipline OR 6+ years of directly related experience.
Ability to maintain detailed and organized records of mouse work and laboratory research.
Apply statistical knowledge and tools to analyze data.
Ability to communicate information verbally clearly and concisely and in written form.
Ability to demonstrate effective mental concentration, visual attention, and dexterity.
Ability to interact with all individuals in a productive, professional, and positive manner to enhance the outcome of the goals of the research program.
Established understanding of good safety practices and a demonstrated history of safe conduct.
Proven ability to organize time effectively and work under time constraints, meet deadlines and prioritize work.

The successful candidate must thrive in a fast paced, team-oriented environment while maintaining a high level of professionalism and engagement. Exceptional attention to detail and manual dexterity are required.
