Title: Town Clerk

Reports to: Selectboard

Position Description: The Town of Benton, Maine (population 2,700) is seeking an energetic and dedicated person for Town Clerk. Work responsibilities include, but not limited to, the preparation and maintenance of all Selectboard records and other official municipal documents and ordinances, supervision of elections and election staff, registration of voters, issuance of various licenses and permits, recording various documents and vital statistics, providing clerical assistance to the Selectboard, and other tasks and duties as assigned. Cross training may be required. Work involves extensive public contact (in person and phone) and high standard of customer service to obtain and provide information and records, issue of licenses and permits, etc. Must show skill at bookkeeping, records maintenance, and report preparation. Work requires knowledge of modern office procedures, practices, and equipment, including the use of copier, computers and software. Work requires initiative, judgment, and ability to work effectively and independently with the public and other officials. Prior experience in a municipal clerk’s office and experience with TRIO software is preferred.

This is a part time position, 15 hours a week with additional 160 hours budgeted for election periods. Office hours during regular town office hours. Some flexibility as Selectboard and office needs dictate.
