Job Description
The Senior Project Engineer leads technical support around quality control, quality assurance, design and specification compliance, contract compliance, scheduling, document control, procurement, productivity, financial management, material management, and subcontractor management to the project team on-site. This individual must assist with the project being constructed safely, ethically, and compliant with all federal, state, and local laws. The Senior Project Engineer supports construction and is responsible for the project control functions on a given project or assignment. This individual provides oversite to all project engineering functions and is the primary support to the Project Manager in all management functions, and often the project on-site management lead. This individual may be responsible for multiple projects and teams.
Job Responsibilities
Assist in project planning, value-added engineering means and methods, developing work packages, and preparing production indicators/benchmarks.
Interpret designs/drawings; research and resolve drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, interferences, and errors; and verify that all completed work complies with applicable codes, drawings, and specifications.
Provide input to the daily job log; if there is no Field or Project Engineer on-site the Senior Project Engineer supports the entire daily log.
Generate and maintain contract compliance listings, buyout logs, and procurement reports.
Responsible for submittals, RFIs, transmittals, material tracking, and maintaining communication and approval from the Owner and Engineer.
Assist the project team in coordinating subcontractors and ensuring their adherence to company expectations and project requirements.
Coordinate administrative activities on a project, including understanding the estimate, project start-up, and costing; and assisting with scheduling, demobilization, etc.
Track quantity data, measure productivity, provide feedback to project supervision, and lead discussions on changes to better meet productivity.
Provide technical support around quality control, blueprint and contract compliance, scheduling tasks, documentation, and engineering means and methods on-site.
Conduct risk identification and analysis, production trend analysis, and recovery planning with the Project Superintendent
Monitor project turnover package progress.
Create value-added refinements and proposals.
Oversee the project financial management program and analyze information for project strategic decision making.
Identify, document, and estimate costs of extra work activities, which were not anticipated in the original scope and provide proper notification and financial reporting of change orders.
Establish and maintain a project change order log within the project management system.
Update project cost/revenue forecasts and identify financial risks/opportunities, and communicate them to the senior management team and the Owner.
Act as the project lead on cost control and forecasting, invoicing, financial management, on-site procurement, and subcontract and purchase order management.
Generate and maintain the project schedule with assistance from operations to aid project leadership in knowing where they are and making decisions on how to achieve project goals, with input from others.
Maintain the Material Tracking Log and the progress of the major vendors and subcontractors to ensure that materials are manufactured and delivered in a timely fashion so as not to impact the project schedule.
Maintain client relationships by providing ongoing contact to assess the progression of work and resources required to successfully complete the project.
Interpret production goals from work packages for craft supervisors, ensuring full understanding to enable daily communication of productivity goals to the crews.
Oversee project completion milestone progress and deliverables.
Analyze impacts on schedule and cost of recovery/acceleration plans.
Identify any state or local laws relating to environmental compliance and educate our team to ensure understanding and compliance with the permit requirement.
Act as the LEAN leader and coach on LEAN concepts.
Manage Project Engineers and mentor other team members.
Ensure Lessons Learned and Best Practices program is being followed/utilized.
Conduct an analysis of "what-if" scenario impacts during strategic execution planning.
Read and understand the contract and lead the negotiations with subcontractor/vendor dispute resolutions.
Support contract dispute resolution and claims analysis.
Ensure proper execution of Project Management Oversite Program.
Perform other duties as assigned/required.
