In Vivo Specialist - Team Lead, Rare Disease Translational Center

The JAX Rare Disease Translational Center (RDTC) is seeking a motivated, detail oriented full time Team Lead for our In Vivo Technician group at The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and developing members of the RDTC In Vivo Technician Team and is expected to possess in-depth knowledge and familiarity with all operating requirements and procedures in the mouse room in order to provide guidance to trained personnel, as well as offering continued training to the team. This position is a wonderful opportunity for experienced associates to expand their leadership skills and phenotyping capabilities in rare disease research.
The JAX RDTC supports the overall mission of The Jackson Laboratory: To discover precise genomic solution for disease and empower the global biomedical community in the shared quest to improve human health. The JAX RDTC leverages JAX's unique research environment and resources to translate biological discovery into clinical action We work directly with foundations and their associated teams of basic science and clinical researchers to understand the molecular underpinnings of disease symptoms, identify pathways that can be targeted therapeutically, and assess the safety and efficacy of candidate drugs and therapies in biologically accurate mouse models of disease. This position is an exciting opportunity to work directly with the RDTC in supporting this mission.

Key Responsibilities:
This position has significant responsibilities in performing the in vivo measurements, dosing and related techniques related to study execution. They will be expected to perform some of the most advanced techniques of the team.
Monitor and address individual performance of direct reports as measured by defined metrics and other relevant factors to ensure that each individual contributes fully to the team effort.
Resolve personnel problems within the team or with other managers within the group in a professional, consistent and timely manner which minimizes impact on customer experience and fosters strong team morale.
Work with Study Scientists and Project Managers to resolve scheduling conflicts, reschedule tasks that need coverage, provide ongoing training to keep the needs of research matched to the skills of the technician team
Requirements:
BS degree in applicable field of study and 4 years' applicable work experience in a laboratory/animal care setting; or 6+ years' applicable work experience in a laboratory/animal care setting.
Demonstrated advanced animal handling experience and ability to perform a variety of biomethods such as dosing, animal necropsy and tissue collection.
Demonstrated ability to motivate and lead others toward the accomplishment of individual and shared objectives including experience in planning, prioritizing, and assigning work; training staff; and monitoring their daily performance
Ability to coordinate and perform multiple tasks utilizing strong prioritization skills and advanced attention to detail, while understanding project principles and technical requirements
Knowledge of genetics and mouse-based animal husbandry and colony management as would normally be acquired through four or more year's successful professional experience. Successful completion of Genetics I & II or college accredited coursework in advanced Genetics
Possess a strong attention to detail along with patience and flexibility to adjust teaching approaches and techniques in order to train and manage junior staff members.
