Job Description

We seek a Research Assistant II with the Sasner Lab in Bar Harbor, Maine.

Our group develops and characterizes novel mouse models for Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative diseases. A focus will be generating new models for the MODEL-AD program, with other ongoing projects funded by the National Institute of Aging, the Alzheimer's Association, and the International Neuroimmune consortium.

Key responsibilities
This position will be responsible for characterizing neuropathology and behavior in longitudinal cohorts of Alzheimer's disease models. While the focus of this position will be bench research, the ability to help managing mouse colonies as needed is essential.

Key Responsibilities
Maintain mouse colony; set-up specific breeding strategies
Immunohistochemistry, including tissue sectioning, staining, image analysis and analysis
Tissue and fluid analysis, including ELISA and Western blots
Perform mouse behavioral experiments
Tissue harvests

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or related discipline OR 3 - 6 years of directly related experience in a Laboratory setting.
Advanced mouse handling and husbandry skills required
Prior experience with lab protocols (e.g. immunohistochemistry, ELISA) preferred
Demonstrated success in coordinating and/or conducting multiple, concurrent assignments or a multi-faceted project
Ability to interact with all individuals in a productive, professional and positive manner to enhance the outcome of the goals of the research program
Established understanding of good safety practices and a demonstrated history of safe conduct
Self-motivated with the ability to organize time effectively, demonstrated ability to manage details
Fundamental computer skills, including familiarity with Excel and Word;
Demonstrated team player with professional, positive attitude and willingness to be flexible
Ability to interact with all individuals in a productive, professional and positive manner to enhance the outcome of the goals of the research program
Established understanding of good safety practices and a demonstrated history of safe conduct
Regular, reliable and consistent attendance
