The Transgenic Genotyping Service (TGS)has a Laboratory Technologist position available working in the Transgenic Genotyping Lab within the larger Model Engineering Laboratory Operations Group in Bar Harbor.The incumbent plays an essential role in the overall success of JAX by using cutting-edge molecular techniques to ensure the proper genetic characterization of our mice. Key Responsibilities:
Performing routine genotyping including the use of robotic and manual micropipetting processes for PCR experiment set up, data analysis, assay troubleshooting, and work list management. This position will also perform support tasks including DNA extraction, mixing reagents, making and cataloguing controls, among others.
This position may include some occasional weekend work, but standard work is performed Monday - Friday.

Qualifications:
Knowledge of Mendelian genetics that can be obtained through a genetics course at an accredited college or university or through successful completion of the Jackson Laboratory genetics course. Other means of acquiring this knowledge will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Experience and knowledge of DNA extraction, PCR processes, agarose gels, and pipetting is desirable.
Proficient in working with computer software and databases such as Excel, Outlook, and Word.
Strong written and oral communication skills sufficient to permit clear and effective exchange of information with people representing a wide diversity of disciplines and levels within the organization.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while consistently maintaining a positive and professional demeanor.
