Job Description

JAX Surgical Services has an exciting opportunity available to join their team in Bar Harbor, Maine as a Surgical Advanced Technologist!

The Surgical Technologist is responsible for performing basic major surgical procedures and surgical support tasks to fulfill customer orders consistent with surgical services quality and productivity standards.
Advanced Surgical Technologists also provide mentorship to new staff and assist with internal quality control duties such as necropsy and process improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
Performs basic major surgical procedures such as testicle removal (castration), ovary removal (ovariectomy) and vas deferens ligation (vasectomy).
Executes all related surgical tasks such as pre-operative health assessment, providing safe and effective anesthesia, administering and recording correct dosage of medications, monitoring intra-operative vitals, ensuring successful anesthetic recovery. In addition, maintains accurate, consistent, and complete surgical documentation.
Provides surgical support, such as post-operative animal assessment and treatment, stocking and sanitization of surgical areas, equipment maintenance, basic husbandry, and packing mice for shipment to customers.
Works to develop and refine surgical skills and performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to work with rodents.
Ability to aseptically perform basic major survival surgical procedures on mice utilizing a microscope.
Interpersonal skills sufficiently advanced to successfully interact with people representing a variety of levels of sophistication.
Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment while maintaining a positive attitude.
Must have good working knowledge of Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel.
Ability to work a flexible work schedule (including rotating weekend/holiday coverage) and travel occasionally.
Ability to perform confident, responsible animal handling and a variety of biomethods.
Proven and consistent high level of attention to detail.
Able to prioritize task assignments and communicate progress with team.
Actively seeks to improve skills, facilitate learning, and understand job related items.
