They are responsible for the safe, skilled, and efficient operation of a variety of light and heavy equipment associated with snow removal, repair, maintenance, and construction of Town of Gorham roads, sidewalks, parks, and cemeteries. Driver Operators also perform general laborer functions such as patching roads, raking hot top, mowing grass, shoveling, cutting brush, and directing traffic. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), or ability to obtain CDL within 12 months of employment, required (will train the right candidate). Prior experience in the operation of standard automotive equipment heavier than passenger vehicles and prior experience operating heavy equipment, such as tractors, loaders, and backhoes preferred. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Driver Operators must have the ability to work extended and on-call hours as needed, including nights, weekends, and holidays, such as during and after winter storm events.

BENEFITS: The Town of Gorham offers a comprehensive package of pay, benefits, and paid time off to eligible employees. The Town currently pays 90% of the premium cost for all health insurance coverage levels and provides a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) to help cover the cost of out-of-pocket medical expenses, such as deductible and coinsurance. Individuals covered by an alternative health plan are eligible for an annual medical buyout in lieu of coverage (currently $2,250 - $5,048 based on coverage eligibility). In addition to a choice between two excellent health insurance plans and paid vacation, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays per year, employees have access to dental, vision, medical and dependent care Flexible Spending Accounts, life insurance, short-term disability, IRAs, tuition reimbursement, and the option to accrue overtime as time off. Pay range for individuals with a CDL starts at $21.04 per hour; however, actual salary will depend on experience, qualifications, and budget availability. Successful candidates will be eligible for a $1,000 sign on bonus.
