Job Description
Summary
The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) is looking for a System Administrator (SA) to manage our Microsoft (MS) Exchange email environment, and to help identify and implement email and calendar solutions that increase the security, performance, and reliability to all JAX users. This is a high visibility opportunity that will interact with various levels of JAX IT organization and presents a lot of upsides as JAX grows.
In addition, the SA is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software related to infrastructure. They participate in technical research and development to allow for continuing innovation within the JAX organization. SAs ensure that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to JAX's organizational values and IT goals. JAX SA's will work independently, work in teams and collaborate with vendors, other groups, and outside teams. They will share knowledge with all members of the IT Team. This is an exempt level position required to participate in an on-call rotation, called upon for emergency break-fix, and perform maintenance as needed, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, etc.
This is a hybrid position based out of our campus in Bar Harbor, Maine.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and support hybrid MS Exchange and MS Teams running in the M365 platform with some on-premises server management.
Maintain other server IT Infrastructure including, enterprise storage, software applications, integration systems, security software, backup systems, and cloud-based applications. This includes installing upgrades and patches for software and hardware/firmware, and the reconfiguration of these systems to conform to IT best practices and industry standards. Follows operations processes and documentation.
Demonstrates highly effective use and knowledge of technology and keeps management apprised of modern technologies. Creates and ensures documentation is current and accurate. Develops implementation plans and oversees installation of emerging technology.
Keeps knowledge current in their area of expertise while remaining aware of industry trends and the ability to consider the ingestion and adoption of innovative solutions into the environment.
Leads large initiatives or internal projects as assigned by management.
Qualifications
Associated Degree in Information Technology or related field and a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role
Expert-level knowledge of M365, MS Exchange, and email security products like IronPort, Proofpoint, or Mimecast. and advanced knowledge of other System Administration portfolio technologies, supporting an outward-facing approach to technology and method.
Knowledge of server virtualization, high-availability systems, performance tuning, and application delivery. This includes operating systems to manage, monitor and upgrade these systems to remain secure, stable, and compliant with privacy laws.
Experience leading technical projects and initiatives.
Experience troubleshooting enterprise applications including e-mail and messaging, database, virtualization, application delivery systems, security software and monitoring.
Knowledge of enterprise SAN and NAS systems, Tape Libraries and data switches, and data center operations.
Knowledgeable in fundamental network switching and routing, network-based services including DNS/DHCP, time, authentication (Radius), public key infrastructure and federation.
Travel and on-call availability are required.
The salary range is $87,675.57 - $150,707.2. Salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
