Summary

 


Position Summary

Position is responsible for assisting in surgical operations as part of a team under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, or other surgical personnel.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

Education: High school diploma preferred. Surgical technologist training from an accredited school or hospital.

License/Certifications: Successful completion of Surgical Technician certification exam.

Experience: Two years of experience preferred but not required. Experience working with computers.

Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, professional ethics, and medical terminology.

Knowledge of safety, infection control, and quality improvement protocols.

Skill in operating surgical equipment including both sterile and non-sterile equipment.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary for interacting with patients, physicians, supervisors and other staff.

Skill in staying abreast of new developments.

Ability to respond quickly in order to have instruments and other sterile supplies ready for surgeons without being instructed.

Ability to remain emotionally stable, conscientious, and orderly to handle the demands of the operating room environment.

Ability to maintain confidentiality.
