Coordinator of Safety and Club Sports- SEARCH DEADLINE EXTENDED Campus: Farmington Department: Fitness and Recreation Center – FHFCR Bargaining Unit: UMPSA Salary Band/Wage Band: 03: Up to $42,000 Location: Farmington ME Statement of Job: The University of Maine at Farmington is seeking applicants for the position of Fitness and Recreation Center (FRC) Coordinator of Safety and Club Sports. This position provides comprehensive oversight of the UMF Club Sports Program, while supporting the FRC’s safety programming. With just over seven current active club sport teams, this position serves as the primary support and resource person to club officials and team coaches. The position has a significant impact on the design, implementation, coordination, and general supervision of the department’s safety plans, risk management, and emergency response programs. As an American Red Cross licensed training provider, we provide educational and certification opportunities to support the diverse needs of our campus and the greater community, while providing opportunities for student instructors. Essential Duties for Club Sports:

+ Administers and oversees the overall leadership and management of a comprehensive collegiate club sports program, in conjunction with club leadership (students), including but not limited to:

+ Training, leadership development, recognition, and support of club officers

+ Team travel & risk management

+ Financial management in collaboration with Student Senate and the UMF financial services staff

+ Equipment management

+ Marketing & promotions

+ Expands the number of teams to provide additional opportunities for students.

+ Collaborates with Admissions to ensure prospective students understand club sports opportunities on campus.

+ Maintains compliance and budget records using RecCenter Club Sports Module in addition to system software.

+ Manages all aspects of supervising a student coordinator for club sports, a work initiative or work study position.

+ Assists with the recruitment, hiring, training, support, and recognition of team coaches.

+ Serves as primary Campus Recreation representative at home Club Sport events.

+ Advises the Club Sports Council.

Essential Duties for Safety:

+ Schedules, advertises, coordinates, and instructs safety courses, in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Aquatics, Health & Safety, to meet certification needs.

+ Assists with training, mentoring, and managing student safety instructors.

+ Supplies recommendations for student employees to become instructors.

+ Maintains training and certification records for all employees.

+ Facilitates monthly safety audits and emergency action plan trainings to instill confidence and critical thinking in emergencies.

+ Assists with facilitating student employee onboarding.

+ Provides recommendations on training curriculum content to maintain best practices by industry standards.

+ Maintains accurate participant and program data to contribute to monthly and year end reports.

+ Tracks and maintains inventory of safety equipment, first aid supplies and kits and provides recommendations on purchasing needs.

+ Maintains safety compliance records in accordance with organizational, state, and federal regulations.

+ Participates in major department events and trainings.

+ Serves as transportation support for Mainely Outdoor and Summer Daze Camp trips.

+ Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

+ Up to one (1) year of relevant collegiate club sports program.

+ Minimum of one (1) of the American Red Cross Instructor certifications: Basic Life Support, First Aid/CPR/AED or Lifeguarding.

+ Demonstrated ability to help students achieve success and reach their goals by developing effective working relationships.

+ Strong organization skills, including managing the big picture and attention to detail .

+ Ability to lead, manage, and support people and resources in a collaborative team-based environment .

+ Excellent oral and written communication skills.

+ Ability to work independently and reach consensus.

+ Valid State of Maine Driver’s License (in good standing, based on UMS standards) .

+ Working hours are dictated by the schedule of activities and will regularly include both evening and weekend hours.

Preferred:

+ Master’s degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Health and Physical Education, Higher Education Administration, or related field.

+ Leadership or management of a collegiate club sports program.
