Job Description

DNV Energy Management is looking for an experienced Project Engineer to join the team supporting custom commercial and industrial energy efficiency programs for its clients in Maine. The Project Engineer candidate will execute energy efficiency-focused engineering / consulting assignments including energy engineering analysis, technical feasibility analysis, project benefit-cost assessment, project cost validation, equipment specification review, pre- and post-installation site inspections, project database and pipeline management, and strategic customer engagement including energy efficiency project development activities. The role includes managing multiple priorities simultaneously including collecting and documenting project energy impacts, working with program applicants to understand equipment and facility operating characteristics, providing detailed reporting to client and program customers, performing rigorous energy impact validation analysis, and supporting the program manager and program delivery team in meeting ongoing program implementation needs. Program clientele includes the largest commercial and industrial energy using facilities throughout the State of Maine.

This position will be in our DNV office in Portland, Maine.

What You’ll Do

+ Ensure customer and client satisfaction by effectively managing projects and communicating timely project status updates

+ Proactively engage program customers by providing technical guidance and supporting the development of project funding applications

+ Produce work results that meet DNV’s and the client’s high standards including rigorous energy impact validation analysis and technical review report development

+ Provide technical expertise on complex projects as it relates to commercial and industrial energy efficiency and engage the broader DNV subject matter expert community to enhance project outcomes

+ Ensure quality assurance protocols are followed

+ Participate with other engineers on energy technology and policy research projects

+ Present projects to the client for review and approval

+ Function in a team environment and have the ability to independently move projects through the program pipeline

+ Work with the project team and client to manage and build new client relationships, improve program implementation processes, and meet strategic program goals

+ Perform administrative duties and field work as it relates to project database upkeep, project inspections, invoicing, and closeout

What is Required

+ Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, energy systems, environmental science, or related field (directly related experience may be substituted for educational requirements)

+ 3- 5 years of working knowledge of energy engineering analysis, energy efficiency as it relates to commercial and industrial energy conservation measures such as combined heat and power, compressed air system upgrades, heat recovery and heat pump technologies

+ Familiarity with building sciences and energy efficiency codes and standards

+ Understanding of project management best practices

+ Communicating technical subject matter to non-technical staff

+ Performing client and stakeholder management

+ Ability to build and foster working relationships with other staff and customers

+ Reading, analyzing, and interpreting technical documents and complex data sets

+ Demonstrated creativity when analyzing complex projects, information, and data

+ Ability to handle multiple projects in a dynamic fast paced environment

+ Strong commitment to the goals of commercial and industrial energy efficiency

+ Must be able to travel up to 20% to customer or client facilities

+ Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

+ Excellent interpersonal communication skills

What is Preferred

+ 3-5 years of experience managing and analyzing complex energy efficiency projects including strong understanding of project cost breakdowns, cost-effectiveness, and energy impact analysis

+ Demonstrates a specialized experience with industrial energy efficiency assessments, specifically targeting thermal energy end use reductions

+ Has energy management experience within a manufacturing facility

+ Holds a relevant professional certification such as Certified Energy Manager or Professional Engineer

+ Demonstrates continued on-the-job learning and progression in job responsibility

+ Understands the state of energy management in commercial and industrial facilities

+ Experience with energy efficiency project measurement and verification, including energy metering equipment and analysis

+ Advanced Excel analysis skills

+ Someone who is excited to continue to build a career in energy efficiency and make an impact throughout Maine
