Bowdoin College is located in Brunswick Maine with a student population of almost 2000. We make everything from scratch and consistently rated in the top 10 for college dining! We have our own butcher shop, bakeshop and organic garden that all supply food to our 2 dining halls and 3 retail locations.

This position supports our Bakeshop department. Under supervision of the Head Baker. Head Chef, Culinary and Operations Manager, provides production of from scratch recipe bake shop items for the Dining department.

+ Prepares custom bakery items for special diets, authentic global cuisine, and catering as required.

+ Organizes and stages bakery items for Dining board meal and catering events.

+ Acts as team leader to Student and Casual Bakeshop employees. Responsible for periodic transportation and set up of food, beverages and equipment for board catering events.

+ Assists with weekly inventory, par stock, ordering, etc

Hourly rate for this position is $19.75/per hour (This role is eligible for overtime and shift differential). This position offers a $500 sign-on bonus ($250 on first paycheck and $250 after 90 days). Education/Skills Requirements

Required:

+ A valid Driver’s License and the ability to meet the eligibility requirements of the College’s current Motor Vehicle Use Policy

+ High school diploma or equivalent

+ Criminal background check and pre-employment physical

+ Must be able to read, understand and adjust recipes and be able to use fractions, weights and measures relating to recipe production

+ Must have demonstrated ability to work as a member of team as well as working independently with a keen eye for detail

Preferred:

+ Associates degree in Culinary Arts or related degree

Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents

Required:

+ 2-3 years of bakery production experience

Preferred:

+ Serve Safe certification (Must be obtained within 6 month of employment)

+ 3-5 years bakery production experience

+ Experience in a high volume operations is helpful.

Standard Work Days and Hours

+ Regularly works from 5:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Tuesday – Saturday.

+ The role will be required to work occasional overtime for catered events, holidays, and during weather emergencies, in addition to working major college events and weekends (i.e., Parent’s Weekend, Commencement, and Reunions).

+ This position is a full-time year round position working 40 hours/week for 52 weeks (1.00 FTE )
