Data Scientist - Python, Metabolomics

The Shuzhao Li Lab at the Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine (JAX-GM), Farmington, Connecticut, USA is hiring for a Data Scientist. The position can be either onsite or remote. JAX-GM is an excellent research environment for omics and data science, with a state-of-art facility and dedicated research IT supports.

The Shuzhao Li lab developed and contributed to influential software tools in metabolomics. The lab currently operates three Thermo Orbitrap mass spectrometers (1 IDX, 2 QE HFX), developing innovative applications to immunology and genomic medicine. Additional instruments are available in the JAX core facility (QE, Fusion, QQQ, timsTOF, etc.).

The Data Scientist is responsible for managing and maintaining large amounts of data. The Data Scientist plays a critical role in data curation, migration, auditing and storage which is essential to the success of the JAX. They will be expected to participate in efforts to disseminate the data, in collaboration with other key stakeholders.

The incumbent is expected to make important contributions to metabolomics and genomic medicine. This will include a major role in the continued development of mummichog and asari, metabolomics databases, cloud computing tools, and interactive data visualization portals.

Key Responsibilities
Statistical analysis of domain-specific data and generation of reports and summaries
Data visualization using scripting languages and JavaScript-based web tools
Data wrangling to ensure compliance, interoperability, and provenance
Quality control of both low- and high-dimensional datasets, design and implement quality control and quality assurance procedures to confirm the accuracy, fidelity and completeness; troubleshoot data exports and data uploads; track data exports and follow through; implement bulk data corrections.
Communication with team and collaborators, participation in study design, data analytical plan, interpretation of the results, presentations and publications
Participate in data management support to ensure accurate, timely and complete bulk export of data (categorical, continuous and time series data, images and metadata) from the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to another data center/database
Participation in software tool maintenance, development and deployment
Proactive identification of opportunities to improve practices, streamline analysis, maximize data value, and optimize the use of the LIMS

Qualifications
B.S. in Computer Science or Computational Science-related field (i.e. bioinformatics, physics or mathematics) and 2 - 6 years of experience. M.S. or Ph.D. is preferred
Solid understanding of core statistical methods and machine learning tools
Experience in common data visualization methods
Experiences in databases
Programming proficiency in at least either R or Python
Experience in working with high-performance clusters and/or cloud computing environments
Experience in version control tools
Good communication skills and ability to work with multidisciplinary teams

The salary range is $65431.68 - $112472.07.Salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
