Job Description
Midcoast Maine Community Action (MMCA), a human services agency, is seeking candidates to fill a vacancy in the Early Head Start program. Working out of the Bath or Brunswick Head Start office, this person will provide home-based early learning and child development services to pregnant women, children birth to age three, and their parents in these areas. The Home Visitor makes weekly home visits with assigned families to deliver developmentally appropriate learning activities, and education about child health, nutrition, and child development. The EHS Home Visitor will also assist families with identifying and accessing appropriate community resources and supports. Other responsibilities include working with other team members to plan family socialization experiences and create family development plans that support parents in achieving family goals and successfully raising their children. At the present time, most visits are being done virtually or in outdoor spaces during good weather.
Qualifications:
- The successful candidate must have a minimum of a home-based Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate or comparable credential, or equivalent coursework as part of an associate or bachelor’s degree program. A bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Human Services, or other related field is preferred.
- Practical experience and demonstrated knowledge of principles and practices of working with families with infants and young children is essential. Prior home visiting experience is desirable.
- Must be able to assess families in a holistic manner that incorporates education, social services, health, nutrition and self-sufficiency issues.
- The position requires flexibility, good organizational skills, knowledge of social service organizations, and experience with or knowledge of low-income family situations and stressors.
Other Requirements:
- Prior to starting employment, candidates offered employment must be able to pass fingerprinted criminal background, child protective services, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle record checks, as required by state and federal childcare licensing regulations, that indicate no previous record of involvement with child abuse or exploitation and no disqualifying criminal or motor vehicle record that would preclude working with children.
- The work involves travel to families' homes and other locations, so candidates must have a valid driver's license, good driving record, insurance and reliable transportation.
- Persons offered employment must also provide a physician’s health statement, immunization records, and TB screening.
- Proof of full vaccination against COVID is required as a condition of employment for all positions unless exemption for medical or religious reasons is requested and approved in accordance with law.
- In accordance with Federal office of Head Start requirements all employees must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Medical/disability or religious exemptions may be requested and will be reviewed in accordance with State/Federal Laws.
Early Head Start Home Visitors are also currently eligible for a $200-per-month bonus.
These positions are full-time, 37.5 hours per week, and are benefits eligible.
