Job Description

Sign-on bonus of $5,000! $1,000 paid after completing 30 days of employment. The remaining balance will be paid out in $1,000 increments every 6 months.

Spectrum provides services at many of Maine’s hospitals throughout the state and in eastern New Hampshire. Schedule: 36 hr/wk (4) 9 hour days, full benefits. 6:30 AM – 4:30 PM. No nights, weekends, holidays, or call. Job Summary Assists in the delivery of optimal patient care, comfort and safety by providing surgical services to surgeons in the Ambulatory Surgery Center and maintaining goals, objectives and values of Spectrum Healthcare Partners. Responsibilities and Duties

+ Prepares for scheduled OR cases by preparation of anticipated instrumentation and implants.

+ May assume delegated activities as assistant to the circulator by responding to the needs of the surgical team, by assisting in the preparation of supplies and equipment, maintaining a running protocol sheet, assisting patients into room, assisting with proper positioning of patients and the appropriate receipt and handling of specimens.

+ When assuming scrub responsibilities, assists in the opening room for procedures and prepares tables, instruments and supplies at the sterile field. Directly assists surgeons by passing instruments and supplies at the sterile field and is responsible with the circulator for countable items at the sterile field.

+ Assists physician and Advanced Practice Providers with surgical preparation of patient by: applying tourniquet; positioning patient appropriately in relation to surgery and safety to avoid neurovascular injury over pressure areas; Adheres to all time out procedures in the OR: anesthesia time out, surgical time out and post-procedure sign out., allows for appropriate surgical exposure; application of electrocautery grounded pad over large muscle mass close to the surgical site.

+ When performing the second scrub role, responsibilities may include holding retractors, sponging or suctioning operative site, applying electrocautery to clamp, etc., as directed by the surgeon.

+ Provides continuous assessment of surgical and anesthesia procedures to ensure patient safety throughout intraoperative phase; assures strict aseptic technique within OR cases and maintains surgical standards in accordance with AORN or surgery center.

+ Performs surgical skin wash-off per policy, assists the surgical team in gowning, gloving, and draping of the patient from the non-sterile position.

Qualifications and Skills

+ High school diploma/GED required.

+ Surgical technician certification from an accredited school or training program required .

+ BLS certification required.

+ Demonstrated patient care experience in a hospital or outpatient setting preferred.

+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary for interacting with patients, physicians, supervisors and other staff

+ Skill in time management, prioritizing and medical care coordination

+ Ability to organize and accomplish tasks, and have the flexibility to meet changing demands on a daily basis

+ Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others

+ Ability to maintain confidentiality

+ Ability to project and maintain a professional image

+ Ability to work independently and excel as part of a team

+ Excellent customer service skills

+ Proficient computer skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

+ Daily use of computer operating instruments; stationary PC, Laptop PC, keyboard and mouse

+ Light lifting of paperwork, folders or other general record-keeping materials

+ Operation of various office equipment: fax machine, telephone & voice mail system, stationary/laptop computer, e-mail system, scanner, and copier

+ Lifting up to 40 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds frequently

+ Walks frequently

+ May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time

+ Risk of exposure to hazardous conditions and blood-borne pathogens

+ Occasional reaching, twisting, bending
