The opportunity:
As a member of the SLF US Central Actuarial team, the Director, Actuarial is a technical actuarial expert, and provides input and challenge on a wide range of actuarial topics. The focus is on the overall integrity of the actuarial function across SLF U.S., providing leadership within the US actuarial community; overseeing product governance; and monitoring key actuarial initiatives. The incumbent provides strong independent challenge to the Business Units and communicates regularly with key stakeholders within Central Finance and Corporate Actuarial.
How you will contribute:
Risk Management Expertise
Review and challenge actuarial assumptions used and identify risks for product development initiatives and annual rate studies for SLF U.S. and SLF International
Assist the Par Lead and Adjustable Lead actuary, providing review and challenge of par and adjustable product management
Provide oversight and challenge for the Value of New Business and Source of Earnings reporting processes
Ensure Compliance with the Actuarial Governance Policy and relevant Risk Management policies
Own the following Risk policies for SLF U.S. and SLF International: US Product Design and Pricing, Par, Adjustable, Dynamic Capital Adequacy Testing, Source of Earnings and Value of new Business operating guidelines, ensuring consistency with the respective enterprise policies
Work with the Business Units to ensure compliance with applicable Actuarial Governance policy
Consolidation and Oversight
Manage and analyze results for capital stress testing, Goodwill testing (if an actuarial appraisal is performed), and other actuarial projections, as requested
Review and ensure accuracy of surplus income modelling
Leadership
Monitor key actuarial initiatives across the US actuarial community
Manage an actuarial resource; providing opportunities for their professional growth
Function as US actuarial liaison with Corporate Actuarial and Central Finance
Champion continuous process improvement and simplification with respect to financial reporting and analysis
What you will bring with you:
Bachelor's Degree
FSA or similar actuarial designation
6+ years of experience
Strong financial and business acumen
Strong communication and presentation skills
Proven ability to build relationships with peers and key stakeholders
Experience with IFRS reporting is desired
