Summary


Position Summary

The Improvement Specialist for Western Maine Health partners with leadership, managers, staff and clinicians to advance critical enterprise initiatives in performance and quality improvement. Leads complex projects to design, develop, modify and implement healthcare delivery systems with enhanced quality, safety and value. Provides a range of consultation services to organizational leaders and department managers on the development and implementation of key strategies for creating and sustaining a high performing healthcare organization. Offers formal trainings and coaching to staff, managers, clinicians and leaders about change management, systems thinking and data driven problem-solving to promote deeper understanding of system failures and opportunities for improvement. Serves as a system-wide resource for applying performance improvement and project management theory and techniques. Registered Nurse preferred.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

Education: Associate's degree or equivalent training with at least five years of relevant experience in a healthcare setting OR bachelor's degree with at least three years of relevant experience required. Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, business or healthcare administration preferred.

License/Certifications: Formal performance improvement certification at the Green Belt level or equivalent required. Project management certification and facilitation certification preferred.

Experience: See "Education." Experience with relevant statistical analysis software preferred.

Demonstrated ability to complete multiple quality improvement projects in a healthcare setting required

Demonstrated analytic skills, e.g., project-related data analysis and reporting, required

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint or equivalent required

Understanding of consulting models and high level of business acumen preferred

Formal performance improvement training at the Black Belt level preferred

Effective verbal and written communication skills

Strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail

Collaborative and team oriented
