The incumbent in the Sponsored Research Administration (SRA) office works under limited supervision and is responsible for providing administrative and financial management for JAX research and other sponsored program (grants and contracts) activities in the pre-award and post-award phases. This position will support the research enterprise by providing excellent, consistent proposal development and award management support for JAX faculty. The incumbent provides direct professional support and guidance to Principal Investigators (PIs) in the administrative preparation and submission of proposals and the administration of grants, contracts and related funds to faculty and staff in an assigned portfolio. This position provides a high level of client satisfaction through strong relationship management skills. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to anticipate the needs of PIs and their Administrators in the submission, negotiation and execution of grants and contracts. Reporting to the Pre-Award and Post-Award, Manager, the incumbent is responsible for "cradle to grave" pre-award and post-award grants management activities including (but not limited to):* Pre Award: Coordination of grant proposals, reviewing and approving all sponsored budgets, budget justifications, and other required administrative data. Takes the lead on assigned submissions and sees them through to completion, from initiation to internal SRA approval and external submission. Duties include: reviewing submission guidelines, creating a workable timeline, collecting and editing documents, creating budgets (includes calculating salaries and annual increases/fringe rates/IDC rates) and justifications. * Post Award: This includes initial compliance checks and grant set up, budget distribution and effort allocation, monitoring of budget variances and frequent meetings with project stakeholders, progress reports, FSRs, NCE and administrative action requests, budget analysis, account reconciliation, and project future spending.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions: Pre-Award:
Works directly with Principal Investigators (PIs) in the preparation, electronic submission and pre-award administration of grants and contracts, including subawards and annual progress reports. Interprets federal and state guidelines on grant applications.
Researches and informs investigators of specific application requirements for varying funding sources and corresponding JAX polices;
Oversees, prepares and compiles all components of grant submissions ensuring proposals are formatted, assembled, validated and submitted in accordance with granting agency requirements;
Prepares grant budgets and drafts budget justifications based on investigator input and Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) requirements in compliance with sponsor/donor and JAX policies;
Utilizes detailed checklists to manage timelines and the overall progression of submissions to ensure the completion of high quality, compliant proposal applications that are responsive to specified FOA; escalates issues requiring attention to the Pre-Award and Post Award Manager/Senior Manager, or Director, SRA.
Supports investigators in responding to Just-In-Time requests and ensures files are complete for awarded applications, secures missing information from PIs; Aids PIs in the updating of Biosketches, Other Support, Resources, Equipment, and other grant template documents; updates records accordingly.
In coordination with the Grants Financial Analysts and the PIs, promotes accurate preparation and timely submission of progress reports as required by sponsoring program;
Works closely with the Grants Financial Analysts to ensure proper setup of initial budget period of new awards.
Works closely with JAX staff involved in sponsored research activities to ensure effective, accurate, and efficient procedures. Works closely with pre- and post-award colleagues in support of team cross-training to assist in peak load times.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Post- Award:
Assists PIs and Grants Administrators with grant budget development by providing salary and FTE information and ensuring accuracy of budget before submittal. Calculates JAX Overhead Cost Allocation.
Ensures correct data are collected, provides spending analysis/projections and suggestions for resolving surplus or deficit funding; makes adjustments as needed to resolve issues with spending; meets regularly with PIs and SRA Managers to review PIs' research portfolios.
