Research Assistant I/II - Metabolic Phenotyping Core

The Center for Biometric Analysis is a state-of-the-art facility providing in vivo mouse phenotyping services across a wide range of biomedical domains including diabetes, obesity, exercise physiology and ageing.

We are recruiting an enthusiastic and skilled Research Assistant I/II to join our Metabolic Phenotyping Core in Bar Harbor, Maine. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and skilled Research Assistant with a keen interest in mouse metabolism and physiology. The day to day activities of the role will include conducting mouse phenotyping procedures, quality control and analysis of the resulting data, schedule planning, developing and documenting methodologies, as well as assisting in the preparation of data packages and scientific reports. The successful candidate will become highly proficient in mouse phenotyping procedures such as indirect calorimetry, glucose tolerance tests, body composition analysis and glucose clamps.
The range of duties includes but is not limited to data collection; data quality control and statistical analysis; project planning and scheduling; developing and documenting phenotyping assays that are new to the Metabolic Phenotyping Core; troubleshooting and modifying existing assays; training team members to perform assays; laboratory and project management; and preparing materials for scientific reports.

The successful candidate must thrive in a fast paced, team-oriented environment while maintaining a high level of professionalism and engagement. Exceptional attention to detail and manual dexterity are required.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Achieve and maintain competency in metabolic phenotyping assays.
Conduct studies based upon standard operational procedures (SOPs).
Collect data, perform quality control, monitor accuracy, and upload data to database.
Apply statistical tools to analyze data.
Install, operate, and troubleshoot highly specialized equipment.
Write and maintain SOPs to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Identify and document variations that may affect the validity of experiments.
Ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Mouse handling and phenotyping skills preferred (required for RAII position).
Experience in rodent-survival surgery preferred.
Ability to interact with others in a productive, professional manner.
Exceptional computer skills including database configuration.

Education:
Bachelor's Degree in biological sciences or equivalent experience.

Experience Required:
For the RAI position: 3 years.
For the RAII position: 3-6 years.
