Job Description

This position is available to Northeastern University students who are currently enrolled and eligible for Co-op January - June 2023.
The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) is seeking an intern to join the Computational Sciences (CS) department. The successful candidate will work on pipeline development, analyzing Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) data. The intern will have an opportunity to collaborate with the experts in cancer and immunology fields and to be included in the publications as a co-author.

There are two project options available for this position. Both projects will provide the opportunity to work using cutting-edge technologies with an application to cancer or SARS-CoV2 research.

Project 1:
Workflow development and/or evaluation and the analysis of single-cell RNA-seq (scRNA-seq) datasets from human airway epithelial cells infected with SARS-CoV2

Project 2:
Workflow development and/or evaluation and the analysis of triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) in PDX models using short- and long-read sequencing

Project 1:
Evaluation of available tools for scRNA-seq analysis
Integration of scRNA-seq and bulk RNA-seq datasets
Workflow development and documentation
Statistical analysis, visualizations

Project 2:
Analysis of short- and long-read RNA-seq datasets
Evaluation and refinement of available integration pipelines
Workflow development and documentation
Statistical analysis, visualizations

Desired Qualifications
Desire to learn new skills and interest in the medical biology and/or computational biology fields
Ability to work independently, communicate well, ask questions, be organized, and make documentation of all written code for the project
Familiarity with UNIX, bash languages, and R

Preferred(not required):
Experience in NGS data analysis
Experience with Git, Bitbucket, Docker, and Singularity
Knowledge of cancer/immunology (depending on a project)
Cover letter indicating project interest
