The OPEX Manager is a highly visible, hands-on leader responsible for implementing solutions for manufacturing and administration. This position will perform/lead Operational Excellence activities to achieve and enhance the designed output of our production and business systems, per value stream. This position will lead continuous improvement efforts which in turn will yield high results through all departments.  The OPEX Manager reports to the General Manager.  

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and incorporate key operational benchmarks into work activities, fostering an environment of continuous improvement and root-cause analysis techniques to drive improvements.
  • Lead problem solving teams and Kaizen events to improve operational performance
  • Conduct experiments related to improving processes to achieve yield and throughput for more efficient and effective production, identify equipment and process flow bottlenecks.
  • Leverage data to drive continuous improvement
  • Measure process improvement performance against targets.
  • Support an operating culture that promotes involvement, communication, accountability, and passion for excellence.
  • Coach and practice strong and disciplined LEAN methodology to enable focus on process improvement and waste elimination.
  • Direct supervision of assigned employees including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Promote and support all company initiatives for safety and ensure compliance from assigned employees.
  • Provide project management oversight to ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and budget.
  • Develops annual budget for the department
  • Coordinate manufacturing launch for new or revised products
  • Ensure the Operational Excellence (lean) methodology is utilized to drive sustainable manufacturing and business process improvements that optimize capacity, reduce lead-time, minimize inventories, maximize fill-rates, process flow, and productivity.
  • Lead facility design and layout projects with Engineering and Manufacturing teams. This includes creating a project plan to coordinate equipment moves throughout the facility to match the facility design and future state value stream map.
  • Plan work schedules, expenditures, attend meetings, and prepare monthly reports as required, ensuring effective communication of ideas, information, and issues to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Responsible for leading projects of varied scope, which include overseeing the department personnel in the implementation of new or modified equipment, products, or processes.
  • Reinforce associate’s awareness of keeping the customer’s end use and needs in mind with every task they do.
  • Provide value to our customers by using Lean tools and concepts to identify and eliminate waste in all forms (scrap/rework, transportation, motion, waiting, inventory, over production, over processing, and under-utilization of people). Uses systematic thinking by seeing processes from end to end and works to challenge the status quo to eliminate the root cause of problems. Is involved in individual and/or team activities that involve using Lean tools and concepts to improve the flow of information and material.
  • Perform other duties as required

 

KEY PERFORMANCE METRICS

  • All of Baker Company business metrics, including, but not limited to, Lead Time reduction, direct labor efficiency (Labor % of sales), safety, on-time-delivery

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to perform 5S activities which includes apply tape to floors (on hands and knees) periodically
  • Must be able to do computer work (sitting or standing) for extended lengths of time
  • Must be able walk/stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift/carry 25 lbs.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • BS Degree - Manufacturing or Engineering preferred
  • Minimum 8 years in manufacturing environment, leading lean/kaizen events
  • Proven leadership experience
  • Experience training and coaching a formal problem-solving methodology
  • Experience with Process Improvements
  • Demonstrated experience with lean strategies
  • Adaptable to change
  • Able to manage competing priorities
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills
  • Excellent partnership, collaboration, communication skills, facilitation skills
  • Ability to effectively lead and manage change.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
