The Portland International Jetport is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Aviation Safety Officer. The Aviation Safety Officer works under the general direction of the Airport Director, with an additional supervisory relationship to the City of Portland’s Director of Occupational Health & Safety. This position develops, implements, and manages the Airport Safety Management System (SMS) in accordance with Federal Guidance and best industry practice. The Aviation Safety Officer plans, implements and coordinates programs to prevent, reduce or eliminate accidents, injuries, illnesses and mitigate resulting financial losses at the Portland International Jetport. This position exercises significant discretion and independent judgment in creating and administering the Jetport’s safety program. Activities are performed with considerable personal initiative and independence. This position also leads the Jetports Safety and Accident Review Committee. This position will be front and center in reinforcing the Jetports core values of Safety, Service, Teamwork and Trust. Successful candidates will have excellent training skills, demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively, and demonstrate excellent communication skills. Preference will be given to applicants who have prior experience implementing and overseeing Airport Safety Management Systems and prior experience implementing and overseeing OSHA/BLS Standards. This is a Non-Union position - Grade C41 - Salary range of $62,854 - $77,295/year.
