Pine Tree Legal Assistance is Maine’s oldest and largest civil legal aid provider. Position Overview

HR Director will support the growing mission driven organization. PTLA is a unionized program with 6 offices in the State of Maine. HR Director will be a solo HR Practitioner combining strategic and operational tasks, such as:

  • Talent Acquisition: coordinate recruitment, hiring, and retention activities to ensure a talented, diverse, engaged workforce committed to the organization’s mission.
  • Payroll: HRD is responsible for maintaining and processing the PTLA payroll for production by an outside company, as well as all related reports and records as relate to W2s, 1095s, etc.
  • Work with the Deputy Director in their support of middle managers supervision, implementing best practices for staff wellbeing, support, and productivity
  • Being a resource for staff when there are employment-related questions and/or questions related to timekeeping, payroll, benefits, etc.
  • Benefits: administering benefits plans, including benefits enrollments, changes, terminations, COBRA administration, and maintaining and handling compliance-related forms. This includes medical benefits as well as retirement plan benefits. Additionally, the HR Director will work with the Finance Director to review plans annually and coordinate open enrollment for benefits plans.
  • Administering leave time, administer timekeeping records in case management system.
  • Wage and data reporting: ACA and federal labor reports, worker compensation audit, and other required audits and reports.
  • Personnel records support: The HR Director is responsible for ensuring all documents and information are properly stored and updated. Additionally, the HR Director will maintain schedules and charts related to personnel, such as union membership, salary/benefits records, and seniority charts. Maintaining and updating job descriptions.
  • Ensuring that all personnel policies and human resources practices are administered appropriately and consistently, and that PTLA is in compliance with all relevant laws.
  • Participating in grant management as it relates to employee policies. Will be responsible for ensuring employee policies are in compliance with grant requirements.
  • Participating in Union negotiations, any CBA related matters
