Utility Services Technician - Caribou, ME

Permanent opening for a Utility Service Technician in Caribou. This position offers an excellent daytime schedule, competitive wages, and attractive benefits package that includes paid time off, holidays, health insurance and retirement services. 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday; $18.00 - $21.00/hr.

The Utility Service Technician will assist with the repair and maintenance of local water distribution and wastewater collection systems. Ideal candidate should have a strong work ethic and be able to work independently as well as perform well in a team environment. Related construction experience is preferred along with a CDL class B license or the ability to obtain a CDL within 6 months is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Repair & install water mains, valves, fittings, water services, meters, wet taps, line stopping, and any other appurtenances to the distribution system.
  • Assist in the installation and servicing of water mains; service lines; water meters; fire hydrants; and customer complaints and issues.
  • Excavate areas to repair, replace, or install water mains, service lines, or any other apparatuses related to the distribution system.
  • Operate and maintain motor vehicles to transport personnel, tools, equipment, and supplies to worksite.
  • Operate various hand and power tools, as well as heavy equipment.
  • Repair and maintain valves and fire hydrants.
  • Assist in locating valves and utility lines.
  • Install and exchange water meters.
  • Perform non-skilled level facilities maintenance and cleaning.
  • Complete routine paperwork and keep accurate records of maintenance performed at job sites.
  • Assist and support other departments/divisions as needed.
  • Respond to emergency calls, including incidents which occur during off-hours.

Job Requirements:

  • Class B driver’s license (can be obtained after employment).
  • License to work on water distribution systems and wastewater collection systems (can be obtained after employment).
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and motor vehicle check.
  • Pre-employment physical and drug testing required.
  • Previous maintenance or construction experience strongly preferred.

Schedule: Full-time/Days; must be available to work on-call as needed

Pay: $18.00 - $21.00/hr.
