Summary


Position Summary

Performs customer service duties including data input/retrieval of patient information. Receives and screens patients/visitors and notifies appropriate personnel or records messages. Sorts and distributes mail. Uses laboratory information systems to input and obtain relevant patient information. Interacts with staff, clients and patients providing assistance and information as appropriate. Responsible for Patient billing and department invoice functions

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

Education: Completion of high school or equivalent is preferred. Health care experience or post high school education in health care, laboratory sciences (MLT or MT) or equivalent sciences preferred. Working knowledge of medical terminology and reference laboratory operations required.

License/Certifications: N/A

Experience: Two to three years of experience in health care setting is desirable but not required. The employee needs an understanding of basic customer service principles, to a level that would be acquired through at least 3 years of prior customer service experience. Working knowledge of word processing software (e.g. Word) and be able to learn and work efficiently with a variety of laboratory computer systems. Oral and written communication needs to be professional, clear and concise.

Able to learn and work efficiently with a variety of laboratory information systems.

Ability to learn and work efficiently with a variety of standard office equipment (e.g., fax, copier, telephone).

Manages difficult or emotional customer situations; Responds promptly to customer needs; Solicits customer feedback to improve service; Responds to requests for service and assistance.

Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; Listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions.

Successfully demonstrates competencies in the position in accordance with the established assessment for the position.

Must be able to work any shift, holiday and/or weekend as needed.

Must be able to travel among company sites as needed.
