Salary: $41,537 – $55,744 (A 4% general salary increase will be implemented July 3rd.)

This position is transfer/demote only and agency only.

This position is directly responsible for the protection of the Maine Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund through the investigating of benefit overpayments due to accidental and/or intentional under-reported and misreported wages; And the prevention and detection of Identity Theft/Fake Unemployment Claims including validation of IDs. This position may also be responsible for bringing cases to the District Attorney’s Office or other prosecutorial jurisdictions.

Job Responsibilities

+ Position involves data review of claims and employer provided wage audits to determine if an over-payment of benefits exists, and if the overpayment was intentional or due to misunderstanding.

+ Position involves the validation of identity through documents uploaded to the ReEmployME system and in-person.

+ Position may require presenting to District Attorneys, State, and/or Federal Prosecutors.

Minimum qualifications:

A Baccalaureate Degree in Criminal Justice, Law, Business or Public Administration, or related field AND one year experience in criminal investigation, law enforcement, forensic accounting, auditing, or related field. Directly related work experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Current employment within the Department of Labor as a Fraud Investigator.

Preference will be given to those who:

+ Professional investigation position requiring in-depth knowledge of Maine’s Unemployment Insurance Laws, interviewing techniques, and ID validation.

+ Experience as an Unemployment Claims Adjudicator or Eligibility Associate.

+ Ability to work with limited supervision.

+ Ability to work as part of small team.
