The Maine Department of Labor (MDOL) is now hiring for a Rehabilitation Counselor to join the Maine Apprenticeship Program team as the Bureau of Rehabilitation Services Apprenticeship Navigator! This position will be based in Portland but have statewide responsibilities as part of a team of hardworking professionals who support the expansion of apprenticeship for businesses and development of career opportunities for job seekers with disabilities across Maine.

Primary responsibilities include:

+ Serves as a resource connector for job seekers with disabilities, employers, and Registered Apprenticeship and Pre-Apprenticeship stakeholders, including Secondary Schools, Career and Technical Education Centers, Industry Associations, Community Colleges, and other Workforce System Partners.

+ Provides technical assistance to Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors on Registered Apprenticeship and Pre-Apprenticeship opportunities for their clients.

+ Provides outreach to businesses to understand their workforce needs and helps strategize how to meet those needs through apprenticeship and other MDOL programs and services.

+ Establishes a counseling relationship with Vocational Rehabilitation clients, interpreting disability related information and determining rehabilitation needs that will result in a successful employment plan.

+ Educates workforce system partners on resources and strategies that promote the inclusion of people with disabilities in employment, including reasonable accommodations, assistive technology, Work Opportunity Tax Credits, and other support services, such as transportation and childcare.

The successful candidate must also have good computer knowledge to include Microsoft Office suite and virtual meeting platforms, such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom, and possess the ability to use independent judgment in handling work assignments, priorities, and schedules

Minimum qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in a field related to vocational rehabilitation and 2 years of experience demonstrating knowledges and abilities in assisting individuals with disabilities, employers and other stakeholders with their employment and workforce needs.

Given the nature of the job responsibilities, certain positions may be subject to fingerprinting as part of the background process once a conditional offer of employment has been made.
