Job Description

This is a laid back position with a great agency. You have the opportunity to support students with vision impairments as they learn compensatory skills to live independently.

We are looking for a part-time Staff Person to work in our dorm located off of our main campus. The Staff Person must remain at the location and be available for students if they need assistance. They will be responsible for ensuring a safe and clean environment-this may mean shoveling during inclement weather.


Wednesday 5pm-9pm

Thursday 5pm-9pm

Saturday 8am-9pm

The Iris Network is a nonprofit dedicated to helping people with vision impairments or blindness gain and maintain independence as well as community integration.


Staff Persons are available in the event of fire/safety, health related, or weather emergencies. Staff persons will assist clients in adjusting to more independent living by modeling appropriate behavior and problem solving.

To be successful in this role Staff Person will need to be able to read and write proficiently in English, support the learning environment of the program and be able to maintain strong personal boundaries.

Job Duties:

  • Be available in the building during shifts, during holidays and during inclement weather conditions;
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of fire and emergency procedures for the location;
  • Respond in a timely manner during shift hours to fire alarms and student requests for assistance;
  • Provide coverage in the event of inclement weather or community health needs;
  • Promptly inform Director of Rehabilitation Center, or Program Coordinator, and Facilities Manager of all maintenance and repair needs in the building;
  • Inform Director of Rehabilitation Services and Program Coordinator of any student issues that are identified during shifts, ensuring that house visitation and room procedures are followed;
  • Drive students, as needed;
  • Complete and share notes for shift to inform Program Coordinator and Director of Rehabilitation Services of student issues;
  • Promptly contact supervisor if a personal emergency or other unforeseen circumstances render staff unable to cover a schedule shift;
  • Maintain cleanliness of dormitory by cleaning common areas as listed on cleaning schedule;
  • Maintain clean and safe environment by cleaning front and back stairs and sidewalk during weather events;
  • Ensure that all clients are accounted for and at no time leave clients in residence without staff present;
  • Adhere to The Iris Network safety standards and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned.
